Hallie Fargnolli, who has been at Ohio State for 15 years, works in the Office of Continuing Education in the College of Social Work

Why did you choose to work at Ohio State?
OSU chose me, but at that time, I thought the free tuition sounded very appealing. I will not mention that I do not have ANY degree … yet.

What do you like about your job?
What don’t I like about my job?

I love the people I work with. I love the atmosphere and environment amongst the staff, I love the mission of the college and, most of all, I adore working and watching students come and go — a bachelor’s, a master’s or doctorate of social work. I have pride in knowing someday, they will make a difference.

What would you improve at Ohio State?
The hiring process. Has anyone tried to get a question answered in this place? It’s a sequence of “not my department” and transferring and you explain again to the next person and get transferred. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE. This is a research-driven university; put your skills to the test!

What advice would you give a new employee?
Jump in headfirst and don’t be afraid to bring your flavor to the mix. And always keep a sense of humor; a laugh carries you a long way.

If you weren’t working at OSU, what would you rather be doing?
I’d be advocating for children. In fact, that’s what I should be doing.

Of what honor or recognition are you most proud?
Having a child is the greatest honor in the world. Meeting and speaking with President Gee was pretty awesome. But I’m certain my most favorite honor or recognition work-related has yet to come.

Who is your hero?
My fairytale husband, Felipe. Why? Because he married me!

What is your favorite activity outside work?
Learning the ropes of child rearing is definitely my most favorite non-work “activity.” I love watching the development changes and karate classes and school functions. My husband and I play soccer, now there’s a real sport. Also, my girlfriends, without them I’d be somewhere face down in a sewer. Shout out to Mali Khantrece, my best friend and fellow university staff member!

What are you going to do when you retire?
I am going to have a home in Brazil and travel the world three times over.

Fisher College receives $1.08M gift
The Fisher College of Business has received a $1.08 million gift from Nationwide Insurance to create an enhanced risk management curriculum and to support finance research by naming Nationwide Fellows and Scholars.

Through the Department of Finance, the new risk management curriculum will help expand the course offerings in the rapidly growing field.
Department faculty and Nationwide executives, who will work together to develop the curriculum, also will make joint presentations to Nationwide interns on current finance issues.

Finance Professor Andrew Karolyi, who holds the Webb Professorship in Finance, is the first Nationwide Fellow.

Nationwide has a long history of supporting Ohio State and, in particular, Fisher College. The insurance company gave a five-year, $4.5 million grant to OSU in 2000, $1 million of which went to Fisher’s Innovation Fund.
