Lingying Zhao, Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, received a $599,837 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture – Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service with Jon Rausch on “Wet Scrubbers for the Recovery of NH3 Emissions from Animal Feeding Operations for Nitrogen Fertilizer.”

Prabir Dutta, Chemistry, Sheikh Akbar, Engineering, and graduate students Nicholas Szabo and Juin Chan Yang have received the 2007 R&D Award from R&D Magazine for their invention of a pollution sensor.

Norman Fausey, Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, was named the 2007 Scientist of the Year by the USDA for significant accomplishments promoting efficiency and environmental stewardship in agricultural drainage water management.

Shahrukh Irani and Bryan Wang, Industrial, Welding and Systems Engineering, have had their JobshopLean system, for low-variety, high-volume assembly, implemented at Bula Forge & Machine Inc., a custom forge shop in Cleveland.

Suvrajeet Sen, Industrial, Welding and Systems Engineering, received the 2007 Operations Research Meritorious Service Award from the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science.

Robert Wagoner, Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, has been selected as an honorary member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers by the board of directors of the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society.

Service
Brian Hajek, Mechanical Engineering, has been elected to serve as a judge on the U.S. Nuclear Commission’s Atomic Safety and Licensing Board Panel, which considers issues arising out of the operation of the nation’s more than 100 nuclear power plants and out of programs related to approximately 5,000 nuclear materials licenses.

Joe Heimlich, Environment and Natural Resources, served as a faculty member for the Academy for Conservation Training, China Association of Zoological Gardens in Beijing, China, Oct. 24-28.

L. Scott Lissner, Public Affairs, has been appointed to the Ohio Secretary of State’s ADA Advisory Committee on Elections and Voting where he will assist in carrying out responsibilities of the Help America Vote Act.

Walter Rucker, African American and African Studies, traveled with a contingent of 12 students to Ghana this summer as part of the Department of African American and African Studies study abroad program.
