Alutto to deliver State of Academic Affairs address

Feb. 7
Executive Vice President and Provost Joseph Alutto will highlight five of the year’s academic priorities in his State of Academic Affairs address to the University Senate. The address, entitled “Planning for Change,” will be delivered to the Senate at 3:30 p.m. in 130 Drinko Hall and will feature information and updates on strategic planning, doctoral program reviews, the arts and sciences federation, the Academic Core North and the University System of Ohio.

Engineers in Motion Workshop wants students
Deadline March 14
The College of Engineering and the Ohio State-Honda Partnership are hosting the Engineers in Motion Workshop June 15-20 for high-ability high school students on the Columbus campus. Attendees will participate in hands-on demonstrations and visit Honda of America in Marysville. They will stay in campus dormitories with housing and meals provided. High school students in the ninth or 10th grade can apply online at engineering.osu.edu/events/agenda.php?eid=27. There is a $25 non-refundable application fee. Contact 247-7936 for details.

Noted urologist to speak about male genitalia

The Departments of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology, Veterinary Biosciences and Veterinary Clinical Sciences are hosting Cleveland Clinic urologist Mathew Simmons for a public lecture from 4-5 p.m. in the Wexner Lecture Hall, Veterinary Medicine Academic Building. Simmons will deliver “Male Genital Morphology and Function: An Evolutionary Perspective.” His works have been published in prominent urology journals and he holds a patent for a hydraulic penile prosthesis. Former judge advocate in Iraq to relate experiences

Feb. 11
Marc Warren, former Staff Judge Advocate for Multi-National Forces in Iraq, will speak on “Legal Support in Wartime: Reflections of a Judge Advocate” at noon in the Moritz College of Law’s Saxbe Auditorium. Warren served as the top legal adviser for Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, commander of coalition forces in Iraq in 2003-04. This was the first full year of the Iraq War, when American forces set up the Iraqi constitution and captured Saddam Hussein and when the counterinsurgency took root and the Abu Ghraib scandal became public. In his talk, Warren will reflect on the wide range of legal issues and problems he faced during this critical period. Seating is reserved. Visit mershoncenter.osu.edu for more information.

Black Panther Party focus of lecture and discussion

Judson Jeffries, professor in the department of African American and African Studies will present “Comrades: A Local History of the Black Panther Party” in celebration of Black History Month. Jefferson Academy welcomes German cellist
Feb. 17
The Jefferson Academy of Music will present German cellist Johannes Moser in his performance of “Chamber Music – Sunday Afternoons” at 2 p.m. at the Columbus Museum of Art. The program will feature works by Brahms, Britten and Mendelssohn. Prior to the concert, a docent-led tour of the museum exhibits will be available at 1:30 p.m. General admission is $24,

Deadline April 4
Faculty members who assign a research project that involves library or Web resources in an undergraduate course at the 300 level or above can help students win $750 and take away $250 of their own. The winning project will be submitted to the OSU Knowledge Bank repository and the winners, including the collaborating librarian, will be recognized at an awards ceremony. Global Health Photo Exhibit seeks entries
Deadline Feb. 11
The Global Health Initiative at Ohio State is seeking photographs for the second annual Global Health Photo Exhibit to be held Feb. 28 in the lobby of Hagerty Hall. Submissions should seek to educate people about any aspect of global health including health care for underserved populations within and outside of the United States, physical health care structures, administration of health care, preventative measures and indigenous medicine.
