Course enrollment policy revised
The Office of Human Resources (OHR) has revised the “Enrollment in Credit Program” policy (Policy 2.35) that outlines academic credit hour limits for staff enrolled in academic course work, effective spring quarter 2005.

The policy allows staff to enroll in a maximum of 10 academic credit hours per quarter, however OHR recently audited this program and found a significant number of staff are exceeding the designated credit hour limit. In response, a “Credit Hour Maximum” section was added to the revised policy to clarify when staff can request an exception and to help identify specific situations when an exception may be appropriate and outline the appeal process for staff requesting an exception to the 10 credit hour limit. Staff who wish to request an exception for spring quarter should file a written appeal by Feb. 11, with the OHR Benefits office.

In addition, a “Request for Course Enrollment During Regularly Scheduled Work Hours” form must now be completed by staff taking a course that overlaps or conflicts with their regularly scheduled work hours.
A copy of the revised “Enrollment in Credit Program” policy can be found at http://hr.osu.edu/policy/policy235.pdf. For additional information or questions, contact OHR Customer Service at service@hr.osu.edu, 292-1050 or (800) 678-6010.

Compensation reports to be distributed

The 2004-05 Total Compensation Statements have been printed and are scheduled to be distributed to employees by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) no later than Jan. 31. The statements were produced for faculty and staff who held an eligible regular appointment of 50 percent FTE or greater as of Oct. 1, 2004. Employees who were hired after that date will not receive a total compensation statement.

The statements provide specific information about the employee’s total compensation amount, including current health care benefits, retirement plan benefits, life insurance, salary and much more as of Oct. 1, 2004. The total compensation amount will include the university’s contributions toward all benefit plans, descriptions of the benefits that employees and their dependents were enrolled in as of Oct. 1 and other benefits that the university offers.
