2-1-2006 2005 Community Charitable Drive surpasses goal againNot once, not twice, but three times now Ohio State's faculty and staff have dug deep into their pockets for the Bucks for Charity drive, raising more than $1 million for central Ohio health and human services charities. "I am so proud to announce that the Community Charitable Drive total right now is approximately $1.03 million, and we still have a few donations coming in," said Michele Bondurant, program manager for special events in the Office of Human Resources. "Our total this year surpassed our $1 million goal by 3.3 percent." It's a trend that shows no sign of ending. This is the eighth year in a row that Ohio State has not only met and surpassed the announced goal, but also surpassed the previous year's total. "We raised $12,000 more this year than last," Bondurant said. The 2005 drive officially began Oct. 10 and continued through Dec. 2. However, donations, including for the recent hurricanes, continue to trickle in. In addition to a Red Cross option, new this year, 11 federations of charities were the designated recipients of funds: the Black United Fund of Ohio; Community Health Charities of Ohio; Community Shares of Mid Ohio; Earth Share of Ohio; The United Negro College Fund/UNCF; and United Way of Central Ohio, Delaware, Fairfield, Licking, Pickaway and Union counties. Each group serves as an umbrella organization for numerous independent member agencies. "We know that these agencies rely throughout the year on the funds generated by the Community Charitable Drive," Bondurant said. "I offer my heartfelt thanks on their behalf to each and every member of the university community who contributed this year."
