Provost candidate fora dates set

Open fora for faculty, staff and students to meet with the finalists for executive vice president of academic affairs and provost have been scheduled. President Karen Holbrook, vice presidents, trustees, deans, department chairs, faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the candidates and provide input to the search committee before final evaluations and recommendation are forwarded to the president.

• Cristina Gonzalez, senior advisor to the chancellor at the University of California, was scheduled to visit March 15.

• David Daniel, dean of engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will meet with the university community from 4-5 p.m. March 31 in 0014 University Hall.

• Elizabeth Langland, dean of humanities, arts and cultural studies at the University of California, Davis, will meet with the university from 4-5 p.m. April 8 in 100 Stillman Hall.

• An open forum with Barbara Snyder, interim executive vice president and provost at Ohio State, will be announced soon.

OACUBO meeting set for Blackwell Inn

The annual meeting of the Ohio Association of College and University Business Officers will be held April 26-27 at the Blackwell Inn. The conference theme, “Leadership for Today,” will address topics to enlighten college and university business officers with updated knowledge of current events that may impact Ohio universities and colleges. Initial remarks will be made by President Karen Holbrook.

FIGSA conference is April 2-3

The 10th annual French and Italian Graduate Student Association (FIGSA) Conference, sponsored by the Multicultural Center and the Council on Student Affairs, will be held at the Blackwell Inn April 2-3. The conference will begin at 4 p.m. April 2 and continue from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. April 3.

The conference will analyze the way literary and iconic themes change across different cultures.The keynote speaker is Françoise Lionnet. The conference is free and faculty and students are invited.

Lenstner is Veterans Lunch guest

Col. Alexander Lenstner, retired with 27 years of service in the Red Army, will deliver “Experiences of a Red Army Officer in North Vietnam, Cuba, Afghanistan and Chernobyl” from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. March 19 in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge.

OIE seeks entries for photo contest

The Office of International Education is seeking entries for the annual International Photo Contest. The contest is open to all faculty, staff and students who have original photographs that were taken outside the United States. Prizes will be awarded in two categories: people and places, and winners will have their photographs displayed in Exposures Gallery in the Ohio Union.

Bio sciences, alumni host golf outing

The College of Biological Sciences and its alumni society are hosting a golf outing for faculty, staff, students and friends May 24 on the OSU Gray Course. Profits from the outing will benefit the Biological Sciences Alumni Scholarship Fund. Various levels of participation are available, and each includes golf cart, range balls, prizes, lunch, dinner and beverages. Additional activities include contests, giveaways, guest speakers and silent and live auctions.

Airport’s silent auction to support Op Feed

The Ohio State Airport is seeking donations and participants for its online silent auction to raise money for Operation Feed. The auction will run from 8 a.m. April 27 until 5 p.m. April 28. Donated items should be dropped off no later than April 2.

Last year, the airport auction raised $2,725 for Operation Feed, which supports food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters in six central Ohio counties.

Medical Center hosts heart seminars

The Medical Center is sponsoring a series of seminars titled “Your Heart, You and OSUMC.” The following free sessions will be held from 7-8:15 p.m. at the OSU Outpatient Services auditorium, 2050 Kenny Road.

• April 6: William Abraham, director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and professor of internal medicine, “The Medical Management of Heart Failure.”

• April 13: Benjamin Sun, director of Cardiac Transplantation and Mechanical Support and associate professor of surgery, “The Surgical Treatment of Heart Disease.”

• April 20: Charles Bush, medical director of the Ross Heart Hospital and David Hart, assistant professor of clinical internal medicine, “Interventions: Angioplasty, Stents, Pacemakers and What’s Next in Acute Coronary Syndrome.”

• April 27: Philip Binkley, director of cardiovascular research and professor of internal medicine will facilitate “The New Frontier: A Panel Discussion with Cardiovascular Experts.”
