4-7-2004 Rose named to lead OSU MarionGregory Rose has been recommended to be named permanent dean and director of the Marion campus. His appointment, subject to approval of the Board of Trustees, will be effective May 8. Rose has served as interim dean and director for Ohio State Marion for the past nine months following the departure of Dominic Dottavio. Rose received his Ph.D. from Michigan State University, where he honed his area of specialization, geography. He began his teaching career as assistant professor at Marion in 1982, and has been associate dean there since 1994. “I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the Marion campus as dean and director,” Rose said. “I am fortunate to be able to build on the strong foundation that my predecessors and the community have shaped since 1957. With the support of our faculty, staff, students and community friends, Ohio State Marion will move forward to meet the university’s role for us in its Academic Plan.” “We’re excited that we have a new permanent leader for the Marion campus,” said Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Barbara Snyder who, along with President Karen Holbrook, recommended the appointment to trustees. “Greg has many years of experience at the campus so he knows faculty, staff, students and the community. I know he won’t waste any time getting things started. I visited the campus recently and was very impressed with what I saw.” Rose continues to teach at least one course annually. His research interests encompass the origins of various 19th century populations in the Midwest. He is currently working on a book manuscript to become part of The Discovery of Peoples of Michigan series published by the Michigan State University Press. His work in administration has involved him in a variety of academic, personnel, administrative, economic, and physical facilities issues and plans. “I’m delighted that Greg Rose has accepted the dean/director position at the Marion campus,” said Karen Bell, dean of the College of the Arts and chair of the search committee. “It is clear that Greg possesses the qualities and the experience to ably lead Marion into the future.”
