Women in Engineering hosts WiE DREAM
Registration deadline Jan. 14
The Women in Engineering program at OSU proudly hosts WiE DREAM, a one-day career exploration event for 10th and 11th grade female students interested in learning more about OSU’s undergraduate engineering programs, on Jan. 26 at Knowlton Hall. Participants will engage in a series of interactive, hands-on activities to explore engineering career options and technology of the future. Participants will interact with OSU female engineering students and industry members to learn about sustainable energy practices and how engineers improve lives. Visiting Writers Program hosts Slate, Esquire staff

The Department of English Visiting Writers Program presents An Evening with Dan Kois and Scott Raab at 8 p.m. in 165 Thompson Library, 1858 Neil Avenue Mall.
Kois is a senior editor at Slate, where he edits the Slate Book Review. He also is a contributing writer at the New York Times Magazine. A founding editor of Vulture, he also has written for The Awl, The New Yorker, New York and the New York Times Book Review.
Scott Raab began writing for GQ in 1992 and joined Esquire in 1997 as a writer-at-large. His work has been anthologized frequently, appearing in both Best American Sports Writing and Best Food Writing. His memoir, The Whore of Akron: One Man’s Search for the Soul of LeBron James, was published in spring 2012.
Copies of books will be available for purchase at the reading. This event is free and open to the public.
Attend the EHE Student Research Forum
Jan. 18
Nearly 100 posters and oral presentations covering topics in Health and Wellness; Teaching, Learning and Instruction across the Lifespan; Consumer Behavior; Issues in Secondary Education; Financial Health; and Special Topics in Diversity will be featured at the EHE Student Research Forum from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Road.
The presenters, graduate students and honors undergraduate students from the College of Education and Human Ecology, reflect the outstanding research happening across EHE’s three departments: Educational Studies, Human Sciences and Teaching and Learning. Scott Herness, associate dean of the Graduate School, will be the keynote speaker.

Harvard’s Goldsmith to speak on national security

Jack Goldsmith, the Henry L. Shattuck Professor at Harvard Law School and author of The Terror Presidency: Law and Judgment Inside the Bush Administration, a book informed by his tenure at the Office of Legal Counsel in the United States Department of Justice, where he served under Attorney General John Ashcroft, will join the Democracy Studies Speakers Series at 12:10 p.m. at the Barrister Club, 25 W. 11th Ave., across from Drinko Hall.

Throughout history, human beings have always sought out the help of other people to grow, to develop, to bring about self healing and health. This didactic group will help participants find their signature strengths, engage in positive self-care behaviors and make new friends.
