Applications now open for full-time summer research funding
The Undergraduate Research Office, in partnership with Honors and Scholars, Natural and Mathematical Sciences, Psychology, Economics and International Affairs, is announcing the 2013 Summer Research Funding Awards. These awards, $3,500 each, support full-time research over 10 weeks in summer semester 2013. Students from all majors are eligible, so please encourage advisees to apply. College of Nursing partners with Canyon Ranch Institute
A new partnership between the College of Nursing and the Canyon Ranch Institute will help transform the health and wellness landscape in Columbus. Initiatives of the partnership include curriculum development, community-based programming and collaborative research.
In addition, the College of Nursing has added three Canyon Ranch Institute experts to its faculty including Richard Carmona, former surgeon general of the United States. Carmona is internationally recognized for the impact of his 2006 landmark Surgeon General’s Report about the dangers of second-hand smoke and his advocacy for lowering health care costs through prevention.
One of the first examples of the new partnership will be a research/demonstration project of the Canyon Ranch Institute Life Enhancement Program at some Columbus community health centers.
Semester Dependent Tuition Assistance applications due Jan. 11
As announced last summer, the procedure for applying for the Dependent Tuition Assistance benefit has changed. Applications for DTA must be submitted each term for each dependent. Faculty and staff can apply online using Employee Self Service; the deadline to apply for the Spring 2013 term is Jan. 11. To apply online, log on to Employee Self Service via hr.osu.edu or OneSource, click on eBenefits, then click on Dependent Tuition Assistance.

The Student Life Multicultural Center is recognizing January 2013 as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. This programmatic undertaking brings together student and community groups across a wide diversity of Asian cultures and traditions. Ohio State receives $1.6 million Ohio Board of Regents award
Ohio State will participate in a $1.6 million award from the Board of Regents’ Ohio Means Internships and Co-Ops program. The Ohio State-led JobReady internships and Co-Ops for Ohio Industry will create 416 new internships and co-ops across Ohio in the areas of energy, automotive, food processing and financial services. OSU partnered with Columbus State Community College, North Central State College and 82 private-sector employers to develop the proposal. More information can be found at engineering.osu.edu.
2012 W-2 statements can be received online
Register to receive an online version of your 2012 W-2 Wage and Tax Statement. Online W-2s are generally available earlier than mailed copies and can be printed, saved and downloaded into most tax software. Once registered, the W-2 statement is posted on a secure website. An e-mail is sent when the W-2 is available. Register by Jan. 15. Anyone who registers will not receive a mailed paper copy of the W-2. Employees who have previously registered do not need to register again.

New university Outreach, Engagement and Service Recognition Awards due Jan. 31
The Offices of Outreach and Engagement, International Affairs and Undergraduate Education, along with the Service Learning Initiative, have joined together to recognize faculty, staff and students with the University Outreach, Engagement and Service Recognition Awards program. Awards will be given in the Community Engagement, International Engagement, Service-Learning, Staff, Student, Student Organization and Community Partner categories. Chemical Redistribution Program available
Environmental Health and Safety’s Chemical Redistribution Program provides usable chemicals to faculty and staff to be used on campus for university related purposes at no cost. Interested persons must register and request a login on the Environmental Affairs portion of the EHS website to view the available chemicals.
