Headline newsGEE REINSTATES AN OLD TRADITION WITH STAFF BREAKFASTSPresident E. Gordon Gee has made it common practice to pop into student events and gatherings unannounced to let his constituents know they have an open line of communication with him. Staff will have similar access to the administration as the president's office and the University Staff Advisory Committee sponsor regular breakfasts with Gee. The breakfasts, which are invitation-only, will be held for staff in different campus areas such as the arts and sciences colleges, the Medical Center, engineering and so on. Similar plans also are in the works to hold future sessions with Executive Vice President and Provost Joe Alutto. Read more >

USAC MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTEDThe University Staff Advisory Committee, an advisory body to the university president, is now accepting membership applications for the 2008-2011 terms. USAC's mission is to maintain an active and participatory line of communication with the university community and to provide a forum through which staff can raise, discuss and make recommendations on nonacademic issues and activities. UNDERSTANDING IMMIGRATION LAW PANEL DISCUSSION JAN. 14Students for Community Cultural Awareness is hosting a panel discussion, "Understanding Immigration Law" at 7 p.m. Monday (1/14) in 200 Campbell Hall. The panelists include: Ezra Escudero, director of the Ohio Commission for Hispanic/Latino Affairs; Andrew Grant-Thomas, deputy director of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity; and Gus Shihab, immigration attorney for Shihab and Associates. Panelists will discuss topics related to current immigration policy, changes in legislation and how law affects communities, families and individuals. Light refreshments will be served. Read more > OSU ARCHIVES RECORDS RETENTION REVISIONSThe OSU Archives has improved the General Records Retention Schedule for the university to make it easier to use. The number of items has been increased and a category for information technology related records has been added. In addition, the General Records Retention Schedule is now available in a single searchable PDF, designed to open with bookmarks for browsing the different categories, as well as with instructions for searching the PDF. ANNUAL LEADERSHIP AWARDS APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE ONLINEApplications and nominations for the 47th Annual Leadership Awards are being accepted online through Friday (2/8). Individual students, faculty, staff, student organizations, programs, collaborations, and innovations will be recognized in a number of different categories at the 2008 Leadership Awards Celebration to be held at 4 p.m. Friday (5/16). Faculty and staff may nominate students, organizations, and programs for this year's awards. Taste of OSU brings together the campus community to enjoy international foods prepared by more than 30 student organizations and experience the annual Campus Dining Services Chefs' Dessert Competition.
