BERGDALL APPOINTED ULAR DIRECTOR AND UNIVERSITY VETERINARIAN

Valerie Bergdall has been named director of University Laboratory Animal Resources, following an extensive national search that brought forward several exceptional candidates. Bergdall has served as interim ULAR director since December 2006, during which time she reorganized the ULAR staff and space, and revised the unit’s operational accounting and fiscal management, working in each case to more effectively integrate ULAR into larger Office of Research procedures, systems and databases. Under her new appointment, Bergdall will formally serve as University Veterinarian, and also continue in her appointment as Professor - Clinical within the College of Veterinary Medicine. DEPARTMENT OF ART VISITING ARTIST SERIES TO PRESENT LAETITIA SONAMI

The Department of Art visiting artist series will present composer, performer and installation artist Laetitia Sonami at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (1/15) at the Wexner Film and Video Theater. Her most recent work, in collaboration with Nick Bertoni and The Tinkers Workshop, involves large scale installations made with inventors, scientists and school children. DIGITAL TOOLS FOR OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT WORKSHOP FEB 7

A workshop to help you explore the possibilities that Wikis, podcasts, digital stories, and other tools can bring to your outreach and engagement work will take place from noon-1 p.m. Thursday (2/7) in 150 Younkin Success Center (bring your lunch). OSC OFFERS COMPUTATIONAL CHEMISTRY SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS WORKSHOP

The Ohio Supercomputer Center is offering a two-day workshop, Computational Chemistry Software Applications, from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday (1/23) and Thursday (1/24) at OSC, located on West Campus. The workshop will cover the computational resources and environments at OSC, computational chemistry software packages, and the Computational Chemistry Grid. OIT NONCREDIT COMPUTING SHORT COURSES

OIT's quarterly computing short courses are noncredit and are offered at no charge to you. Topics include: Windows XP and Office overview, FrontPage basics, PowerPoint basic and advanced, mailing lists overview, SPSS, and SAS. CONTINUING EDUCATION’S LANGUAGE AND CULTURE COURSES START JAN. 14

The Office of Continuing Education Noncredit Programs’ winter quarter Language and Culture classes begin Monday (1/14). In addition to English Language and American Culture, CEd offers seven different languages in varying skill levels. Students may choose from Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Somali and Spanish. Most courses are held from 7–9 p.m. in Mount Hall on West Campus. GLBT AWARENESS WEEKS EVENTS SCHEDULED

Each year GLBT Student Services puts together a series of community outreach, education and engagement programs that take place throughout the month of January. Full descriptions of each event, as well as calendar updates, can be found on the Multicultural Center Web site. Applications and nominations for the 47th Annual Leadership Awards are being accepted online through Friday (2/8). Individual students, faculty, staff, student organizations, programs, collaborations, and innovations will be recognized in a number of different categories at the 2008 Leadership Awards Celebration to be held at 4 p.m. Friday (5/16). Faculty and staff may nominate students, organizations, and programs for this year's awards.
