Headline newsOSU WEB ACCESSIBILITY POLICY COMPARES FAVORABLY WITH STATE STANDARDSOhio State’s Web Accessibility Policy, that went into effect June 30, 2004 compares favorably to a state of Ohio Web accessibility policy the state implemented recently. Both are based on the standards cited in the federal Rehabilitation Act. The ADA Coordinator’s Office at OSU points out that Ohio State’s policy is strengthened by its attention to detail in a variety of small but significant ways. It also is specific in terms of how page data should be updated, and points out that text-only Web pages aren’t necessarily accessible Web pages. Read more >
TODAY: TEST OF THE EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEMThere will be a test of the Buckeye Alert System at noon today (1/16). At that time, the system will be activated and all campus telephones and any registered cellular telephones will begin to receive a voice or text message clearly identified as a test. Additionally, messages will be broadcast across the university’s cable television network, on the osu.edu Web site and through a mass e-mail to all Ohio State e-mail account holders. The test is being conducted to determine the effectiveness of the university’s emergency notification system. To have your number included, register on the Buckeye Alert System.
NEW X-RAY SOURCE IN NEARBY GALAXY SPAWNS MYSTERYAstronomers studying a nearby galaxy have spied a rare type of star system - one that contains a black hole that suddenly began glowing brightly with X-rays. Though this type of star system is supposed to be rare, it's the second such system discovered in that galaxy, called Centaurus A. The discovery suggests that astronomers have more to learn about the lives and deaths of massive stars in galaxies such as our own. School officials and current students will meet with potential students and their families at 12 Columbus Metropolitan libraries. View a schedule online. The school emphasizes math, science, engineering and technology, and students can earn up to two years of college credit. Students from all 16 Franklin County public school districts are eligible to apply. The deadline is Wednesday (1/30).
