PHARMACISTS BELIEVE DRIVE-THROUGH WINDOWS CONTRIBUTE TO DELAYS, ERRORS

Consumers who pick up their prescription medications at a pharmacy drive-through window might be jeopardizing their own safety in the name of convenience. A new OSU study indicates that pharmacists who work at locations with drive-through windows believe the extra distractions associated with window service contribute to processing delays, reduced efficiency and even dispensing errors. The study suggests pharmacy design should emphasize minimal workflow interruptions but it also offers a caution to consumers to check their prescription medications, especially those obtained from a pharmacy’s drive-through window, said Sheryl Szeinbach, the study’s lead author and a professor of pharmacy practice and administration at Ohio State. SCIENCE EDUCATION GROUP HONORS TRUNDLE

Kathy Cabe Trundle, assistant professor of integrated teaching and learning, received the 2008 Association for Science Teacher Education Early Career Award, at the Association for Science Teacher Education conference held recently in St. Louis. ASTE is a non-profit professional organization composed of more than 800 members from countries across the globe. Trundle’s work best exemplifies quality research, demonstrates an impact on policy or practice in science education, and contributes to the field. Her research focuses on teaching and learning the concepts of Earth and Space Science. She is co-PI for a $1.8 million Institute of Education Science project to develop a science and math curriculum for at-risk pre-kindergarten children.

IRB TRAINING FOR OSU STUDENTS SCHEDULED

If there is a chance you may involve people in your research, it is necessary for you to be familiar with federal guidelines and obtain Institutional Review Board approval before you begin your research. Information sessions conducted by the Office of Responsible Research Practices staff will review IRB protocols with an emphasis on basic principles and exemption categories. Presentations will take place from 2:30-3:30 p.m Wednesday (2/6) in 10 Page Hall or from 11 a.m.-noon on Friday (4/4) in 020 Page Hall. Register online
