Faculty Recognition Book Exhibit featured at Sullivant Library

The Faculty Recognition Book Exhibit is open now through Friday (1/30) at the Sullivant Library and features some of the books selected by Ohio State faculty granted tenure or promotion in 2008-09. The 133 honorees, including regular and clinical faculty from all OSU campuses, chose a title to be book-plated in their name in recognition of their accomplishments. The diversity of titles selected represents the breadth of expertise of faculty and the scope of their teaching and research. Contact: distel.1@osu.edu

Buckeye Alert System test scheduled for Jan. 7

Professor’s book tackles intersection of faith and sexual identity

Assistant professor of comparative studies Tanya Erzen's 2006 book Straight to Jesus: Sexual and Christian Conversions in the Ex-Gay Movement (University of California Press), continues to attract a bright spotlight as theologians, scholars, gay activists and psychologists grapple with the issue of “reparative therapy,” or the transformation of sexual orientation. Jan. 9: Integrating Community-Based Work and Scholarship

Attend Integrating Community-Based Work and Scholarship, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday (1/9) in 400 Stillman Hall, and learn how faculty can integrate scholarship and service successfully. Award-winning associate professor Jennifer Evans Cowley will describe how community projects in the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the University District are embedded in her research. Register online

USAC now accepting applications for new members

The University Staff Advisory Committee is currently accepting applications for the 2009-12 term. USAC is an advisory committee to the president made up of 30 staff members from various areas of the university. Every year 10 members roll off the committee and 10 new members are added. Weather or Other Short-Term Closing Policy established

Ohio State has established the Weather or Other Short-Term Closing Policy (#6.15) for severe weather, power outages, or other unexpected events resulting in a short term university closure. Developing the Habit of Innovation workshop Jan. 13

Join the OSU Leadership Center from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday (1/13/09) at the Fawcett Center for a workshop, "Personal Brilliance - Developing the Habit of Innovation." Facilitated by Jim Canterucci, author of "Personal Brilliance," the workshop will include an address from President E. Gordon Gee and special interviews with OSU football historian and author Jack Park, OSU professor Joan Herbers, Artie Isaac, founder of Young Isaac, and Ken Schnacke, president and general manager of the Columbus Clippers. Deloitte Business Plan Competition - Fisher College of Business

The registration deadline is Tuesday (1/13) for the 2009 Deloitte Business Plan Competition. You must also submit your Conceptual Business Case at this time. Watch for details about the addition of the 2009 Social Venture Competition that will run simultaneously with the Deloitte competition with the exception of a later deadline to submit. Free admission to COSI After Dark Jan. 9

COSI will offer free admission to OSU faculty, staff, students and family members from 7 p.m.-midnight Friday (1/9). COSI After Dark offers free live entertainment, door prizes and contests, snacks and beverages. Complimentary roundtrip transportation is available from OSU to COSI. Buses will leave starting at 6:45 p.m. from several campus bus stops: the Blackburn House on West Woodruff, the Hale Center on 12th Avenue, Buckeye Village and the stop between Morrill and Lincoln Towers on Cannon Drive. Faculty, staff encouraged to sign up for direct deposit

Veterinarian signature now needed for IACUC amendment submissions

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee is now requiring the signature of a ULAR veterinarian prior to submission of an amendment form for specific situations. The signature is required effective Thursday (1/1) when requesting changes described in sections 6-10 of the amendment form. This change is being implemented to ensure the requirements of the Animal Welfare Regulations are met. Contact the IACUC office at 292-4494.
