Sharell Mikesell to lead new Industry Liaison Office

 In an effort to foster economic development opportunities within Ohio and beyond, the Office of Research has created the Industrial Liaison Office, which will serve as the “gateway” to Ohio State innovation and expertise, connecting business and industry to the university's vast network of resources - locally, nationally, and internationally. Sharell Mikesell has been named associate vice president and will be directing the ILO. Since July 2005, Mikesell has served as the co-director for the Center for Multifunctional Polymer Nanomaterials and Devices centered at Ohio State. CMPND is Ohio’s first state-funded multi-university center in nanotechnology funded by the Ohio Department of Development’s Third Frontier Program.

Thompson, Mark to discuss Peruvian glaciers Jan. 21

Lonnie Thompson and Bryan Mark will discuss their research on glaciers in the region of the Cordillera Blanca of Peru at 7 p.m. Wednesday (1/21) in 240 Scott Hall (west campus). Bryn Mawr HERS Summer Institute: Preparing Women Leaders for Institutional Impact

The 2009 Institute will take place Saturday (6/20)-Wednesday (7/15) at the Bryn Mawr campus near Philadelphia. Themes will be: trends & challenges in higher education; strategic planning & action; leading change in diverse settings; developing & managing resources; and career mapping & development plans. ACCAD and Thurber's Dogs combine for unique ProMusica event

A team of nine graduate students at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design took on the challenge of bringing to life some of James Thurber’s famous dog drawings, in partnership with ProMusica Chamber Orchestra and Thurber House. The results will be projected for the orchestra’s performance of Peter Schickele’s Thurber’s Dogs­Suite for Orchestra at its concert on Saturday (1/10) and Sunday (1/11) at the Southern Theatre (www.promusicacolumbus.org/). NCURA TV - Audits and the Audit Process Jan. 13

The Office of Research is offering “NCURA TV - Audits and the Audit Process” at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (1/13) at the Research Foundation. The program explores audits from many different perspectives - from central finance officers to department research administrators. Panelists will discuss the audit process and the differences between audits, reviews, inspections and investigations. Details and registration are available online.

Latest issue of Resources available online

Resources, the Office of Human Resources’ quarterly newsletter, is now available online at hr.osu.edu/resources. The winter quarter issue includes articles on keeping your identity safe, flexible spending accounts, and winter safety tips, plus more information about work, life, and health. Additionally, the print edition of Resources will arrive in your mailboxes this week.

Do you want to lose weight and get in shape? View details on a new session of the Ross Heart Hospital Weight Watchers at Work group or information about the OSU Comprehensive Weight Management program by clicking on the “Announcements/Meetings” category of the onCampus Bulletin Board. Faculty and staff may post or view items under a broad range of categories. Register using your OSU Internet ID (name.#).

Register to receive W-2 statements online

Human Resources is reminding employees that they can register to receive an online, printable version of their W-2 Wage and Tax Statement that will be posted on a secure web site in late January. The employee will receive an e-mail notification when the W-2 is available, along with instructions for retrieval. Read more >

New Saturday hours at Student Health Center

Faculty and staff are asked to help spread the word to students that starting Saturday (1/10), primary care, including gynecology and pharmacy, will be available for students on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Wilce Student Health Center, 1875 Millikin Road.
