Johnson & Johnson exec to lead Fisher College

 Christine Poon has built her career upon the notion that research is crucial to business success. As she’s risen to the position of vice chairman of Johnson & Johnson and worldwide chair of that company’s Pharmaceuticals Group, part of her responsibility was to oversee the expansion of its pharmaceutical research pipeline. Poon becomes dean of the Fisher College of Business in April 2009, succeeding Joe Alutto, who became provost in 2007. Among her tasks will be to help advance commercialization as an institutional objective, strengthening the college’s outreach and connectivity and emphasize its role in Ohio’s economic recovery. SmartMoney: Ohio State a top university for return on tuition investment

The January 2009 issue of SmartMoney magazine ranks Ohio State 11th in the nation in a study that measures the long-term value of a college education. In what it called a "twist on traditional college rankings," the magazine examined the relationship between tuition costs and graduates' earning power to measure which schools deliver the best return on tuition investment. Today: Student Life to conduct fire drill in residence halls

The Office of Student Life will be conducting a quarterly, system-wide emergency fire evacuation drill involving the residence halls only, at 2 p.m. today (1/8). Please yield the right-of-way to the residents evacuating the buildings to get to their designated meeting points. The South Area residents will be crossing 11th & 12th Avenues. Exploring Learning Technologies & Accessibility

Ken Petri from OSU's Web Accessibility Center will present and lead a discussion at this month's Exploring Learning Technologies meeting, from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday (1/16) in 143 PAES. Petri will cover accessibility and commonly-used learning technologies, such as Carmen and PowerPoint, with an emphasis on web video/multimedia accessibility. RSVPs are encouraged. Student Life launches online film competition for students

In collaboration with the Inspire USA Foundation, Student Life has launched "Real to Reel,” an online film competition for OSU students to promote positive messages about mental health. Prizes include a $1,000 grand prize. Faculty and staff are asked to inform students that may be good candidates. All OSU students aged 18-24 are eligible to enter. OIT noncredit computing short courses

OIT's quarterly computing short courses are noncredit and are offered at no charge to you. Topics include: Excel and PowerPoint 2003, Windows XP/MS Office Overview and Windows XP System Management, FrontPage, Web Design, SPSS, and SAS. In addition, the following online classes are now available: Office 2007 Overview and Xpedio. Classes fill quickly, so register online as soon as possible.

Continuing Education reschedules HTML - Level 1 class

Continuing Education has rescheduled HTML - Level 1, which was cancelled for this week, to 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday (1/12) in Mount Hall on West Campus. As a result of this announcement, the late fee for all university employees who register will be waived. Seats are still available, and university faculty and staff also receive special discounted rates. For details, visit ced.osu.edu or call 292-8571.
