Israeli dance troupe Batsheva has electrified audiences around the world for more than four decades. On its fourth visit to the Wex (Feb. 10), the group will perform Three, a work full of visual pleasures, languid beauty, and explosive patterns set to a sonic collage that ranges from Brian Eno to Bach. WOSU Public Media awarded DTV outreach contract from FCC
The Federal Communications Commission announced this week that WOSU Public Media is one of eight regional grassroots organizations selected to receive funding for local outreach efforts related to the upcoming transition to digital broadcasting. WOSU is designated to receive $196,500. WOSU was chosen, in part, because it is the only broadcaster in the country with an established outreach campaign to seniors and those most in need of assistance during the transition. Ohio State to honor Jewish Studies Founder Jan. 12
The Melton Center for Jewish Studies is honoring the memory of its founder Samuel M. Melton (1900-1993) at 7 p.m. Monday (1/12) at the Fawcett Center. An educational and philanthropic visionary, Melton was the first individual to endow a university chair. His generosity was vital to the economic, educational and cultural development of both Ohio State and Columbus. Keynote speaker is Leslie Wexner, chairman and CEO of the Limited Brands and an Ohio State Trustee. Dean John Roberts and President E. Gordon Gee will also share remarks. Today: All new Digital Storytelling Showcase
The Digital Storytelling Showcase is back, featuring an all new collection of multi-media projects by faculty and staff across campus. After immersion workshops in Photoshop, iMovie and Garage Band and a series of intensive story development roundtables, participants will present their work and answer questions about the production process. Jan. 13: Budget Challenges Facing the New Administration
Rob Portman, former U. S. Trade Representative and U.S. Office of Management and Budget director will deliver “The Budget Challenges Facing the New Administration” at 4 p.m. Tuesday (1/13) at the Faculty Club Grand Lounge. The event is part of the John Glenn School of Public Affairs series, “Obstacles and Opportunities: The Challenges Ahead for the Obama Administration.” All events are free and open to the public, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Understanding and Preventing Urban Youth Violence Jan. 14
As part of its 2008-09 Lecture Series, the Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center will present “Understanding and Preventing Urban Youth Violence: How Every Voice Matters” by Deanna Wilkerson, OSU professor of Human Development and Family Science, at 6 p.m. Wednesday (1/14) at the Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Jan. 12: Quale to open Banvard Gallery exhibition with talk
John Quale, University of Virginia School of Architecture will speak at the Banvard Gallery, Knowlton School of Architecture, at 5:30 p.m. Monday (1/12) to open the show: ecoMOD, a research and design/build/evaluate project at the University of Virginia that aims to create a series of ecological, modular and affordable house prototypes. Department of Dance Visiting Scholars lecture series kicks off Jan. 16
In conjunction with its new doctoral program in Dance Studies, the Department of Dance Visiting Scholars 2009 lecture series kicks off Friday (1/16) with a lecture and book signing by Lynn Matluck Brooks, Franklin & Marshall College, from 9-11:45 a.m. in the Music and Dance Library, 066 Sullivant Hall. Applications available for 2009 Engineers in Motion Summer Camp
Applications are now available for the College of Engineering’s 2009 Engineers in Motion Summer Camp for high school students. Hosted by the Women in Engineering program at Ohio State and made possible through the support of the Honda-OSU Partnership, EIM 2009 will run from Sunday (7/5)-Friday (7/10). Continuing Education class registration remains open
The Office of Continuing Education provides opportunities for university faculty and staff to register for the upcoming noncredit Making a Critical Difference with Successful Coaching, Introduction to Strategic Planning and/or any of the new 2009 computer software classes. Sustainable Gardening workshop Jan. 24
The next OSU Extension Franklin County Master Gardeners workshop will cover Sustainable Gardening, from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday (1/24) in 116 Howlett Hall. Cost is $40 per person or $45 per couple. The workshop will present environmentally sustainable gardening practices to maintain plant health and improve soil. Class size lis imited to 40.
