College-age football players who gain weight to add power to their blocks and tackles might also be setting themselves up for diabetes and heart disease later in life, a new study suggests. Standard health screening for certain risk factors might be a good idea for all collegiate football players, said Jackie Buell, director of sports nutrition at Ohio State and lead author of the study. Ohio State and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will present the fourth annual OSU-OSHA Safety Day on Tuesday (1/27) at the Fawcett Center. A full day of educational programs will be taught by OSHA compliance officers, area building contractors and area safety vendors. After a brief holiday respite, the blog "On Research" is back in business, this time questioning why television weathercasters often seem to be disbelievers when it comes to the question of global climate change and humans' influence on it.
