Featured speaker is Nikki Giovanni, professor and best-selling poet, author and essayist. The Buckeye Ecologists Symposium will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday (1/16) at the Women's Field House. Graduate students, faculty and staff will present their research and programs and undergraduate researchers will present posters. In honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, on Monday (1/19) the Multicultural Center will debut a recently produced film of OSU students and staff reading King's speech, "I've Been to the Mountaintop." View online (click on the feature MLK Jr. Mountaintop Speech.) The full speech is covered in the film, merging the voices of 31 students and staff reading a few lines each of this historical speech. Closing remarks by special guest Javaune Adams-Gaston, the new vice president for Student Life at OSU.
This month's Exploring Learning Technologies meeting features a presentation and discussion with Ken Petri from OSU's Web Accessibility Center from 10-11:30 a.m. Friday (1/16) in 143 PAES. The
presentation will cover accessibility and commonly-used learning
technologies, such as Carmen, PowerPoint; with an emphasis on web video/multimedia accessibility.

Story as Leadership, a lecture and workshop with Christina Baldwin and Ann Linnea will take place Thursday (2/26) and Friday (2/27) at the Wexner Center Film & Video Theatre. Both the lecture (2/26, 4 p.m.) and the workshop (2/27, advance registration required), are free and open to the public. Due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday (1/19), the internal intent date for the NSF’s limited submission program, Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship Program, has been extended to Tuesday (1/20). Details and application information available online.
Investigators, graduate students and research staff are encouraged to attend a help session on IRB applications from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday (1/21) in 117 Research Foundation. Office of Responsible Research Practices staff will provide an overview of the Initial Review of Human Subjects Research application and will answer questions regarding other IRB forms. The session is targeted to researchers who submit materials to the Behavioral and Social Sciences IRB, but is open to all human subjects researchers. Register online.
