Ohio State strives to become benchmark for green building

Ohio State is leading the way in sustainability in higher education by creating a Green Build Policy that will set the bar for green design and construction. The principles and practices governing campus building now includes conserving resources and incorporating green design principles, while balancing initial and long-term operating costs. In the future, all applicable projects over $4 million will have U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design silver certification, at a minimum. The Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center was the first campus building to receive LEED certification. Read more >

LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Must have access to internet. A volunteer fee will be paid. If you are interested, please e-mail gcrc.research@osumc.edu.


Understanding and Preventing Urban Youth Violence Jan. 28

Deanna Wilkinson, OSU professor of Human Development and Family Science will deliver “Understanding and Preventing Urban Youth Violence: How Every Voice Matters” at 6 p.m. Wednesday (1/29) at the Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. A Word document is preferable. The deadline for submissions is noon the prior business day. Earlier submission is encouraged due to space limitations. Data Privacy Day and Privacy Awareness

On Wednesday (1/28), the United States, Canada and 27 European countries will celebrate Data Privacy Day together for the second time. Privacy is about more than policy and technology; it is about practices and awareness. Jan. 29: The Ecosystem Services of Boreal Peatlands

Ulo Mander, University of Tartu, Estonia, will present "The Ecosystem Services of Boreal Peatlands" at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (1/29) at the School of Environment and Natural Resources, 103 Kottman Hall. Frankfurter lecture on Christianity and Paganism

The Center for the Study of Religion will present a lecture by David T.M. Frankfurter of the University of New Hampshire at 4:30 p.m. Monday (2/2) in 090 Science and Engineering Library. Tell Us A Story Contest - Digital Union

Have something to say? Pull out your videocameras, crank up your audio recorders, and create a two-minute piece for the Digital Union’s Tell Us A Story contest. Faculty, staff, students, and the community are invited to create a short and snappy piece about anything you’d like. Projects must be less than two minutes long, include the sound of water, and include the phrase, “In the last four years I never.” Deadline is Thursday (2/12). Winning pieces will be screened at the Wexner Center on Wednesday (2/18). Read more >

Seasonal Affective Disorder Teleclass Feb. 4

Join a teleclass about seasonal affective disorder from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday (2/4) and learn what SAD is, who gets it, and some of the causes. The signs and symptoms of SAD, treatment, coping skills, and resources will be discussed. Register online. Headache conference scheduled, certified for CME credits

The Headache: 2009 Update in Diagnosis & Management, scheduled for Saturday (2/7) at the Fawcett Center, will provide the most up-to-date knowledge to diagnose and treat this everyday medical ailment and will also provide information on the various strategies for non-pharmacologic treatment of headache.
