Headline newsFORMER COMMANDER OF CENTCOM TO VISIT CAMPUSGen. John P. Abizaid, former Commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), will discuss “Strategic Challenges in the Middle East” at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (2/20) at the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. CENTCOM directs the operations of 250,000 American troops in a 27-country region that includes the Middle East. Abizaid, who led CENTCOM from 2003-07, will discuss challenges in the Middle East, including the rise of Islamic extremism, Iran’s development of nuclear power, the corrosive effects of the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the global reliance on oil. FEB. 22In honor of Martin Luther King Day and Black History Month, the Young Adult Transition Corps at the Nisonger Center is hosting a workshop, “Inspiring Equality: A Disability and Cultural Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.” from 2:30-5:30 p.m. Friday (2/22) in 131 Hitchcock Hall. Contact: Livingston.28@osu.edu or 299-9349 PUBLIC HEALTH DEAN TO PRESENT RESEARCH ON ELDERLY AND COGNITIVE DISORDERSStanley Lemeshow, dean of the College of Public Health will present details on his research as part of the college’s Public Health Seminar Series from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Monday (2/18) in M-008 Starling-Loving Hall. During spring quarter 2007, Lemeshow collaborated with top French neuroepidemiologists in Paris on a population-based study of the elderly at the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (INSERM). His research focused on analyzing the vascular risk factors for vascular and cognitive disorders in a study of more than 9,000 elderly people. He also researched possible correlations between Alzheimer’s and height, income and educational achievement. No RSVPs necessary. The discussion will be presented by Vesta Daniel, OSU professor in the Department of Art Education. Read more > NEW SURPLUS PROPERTY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM ANNOUNCEDThe Office of the Controller is implementing a new Surplus Property Management System that will replace the Treasure or Trash system. The system will provide electronic submittal of surplus forms, online notification to the Asset Management department and OSURF regarding asset retirements and real time inventory of items in the surplus warehouse. Upon implementation, all submissions of surplus material must be initiated by completing an electronic disposal request from the new online system. Information on how to get department and security access has been communicated to all senior fiscal officers. System user training sessions will be provided from March-April.
