OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN UNIVERSITY-INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS FEB. 21The Office of Research invites the research community to attend a presentation by Susan Butts, senior director of External Science and Technology Programs at the Dow Chemical Company, at 3 p.m. Thursday (2/21) at the Blackwell Inn. Butts is a national leader in the promotion of successful university-industry research collaborations in support of American competitiveness. A reception will follow the presentation. OSU GRAD STUDENTS WIN NATIONAL COMPETITION TO IMPROVE HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOMSA team of three graduate students from Ohio State's College of Public Health beat 20 other college teams to take top honors in the national Case Competition recently in Alabama. Students Julie Anstine, Kyle Dorsey and Nick Schmidt beat competitors from Cornell University, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern and many other schools. The competition is open to students from schools accredited by the Commission on Accreditation Healthcare Management Education. It is designed to evaluate student' ability to analyze a specific problem or case study. The five-credit course is taught by Terrell Morgan, OSU associate professor of Hispanic linguistics, and is designed to introduce educators and other professionals to Ohio's Hispanic communities. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University will present the 20th Annual Pearl and Troy Feibel Lecture on Judaism and Law, scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday (3/2) at Wexner Heritage Village, 1151 College Ave. Stone will deliver "Torah and the State: Divergent Halakhic Conceptions of the State of Israel." The lecture is free and open to the public, and is co-sponsored by Ohio State's Melton Center for Jewish Studies and the Columbus Jewish Federation, as part of the Jewish community's yearlong Israel 60 celebration. Read more > SPRING CAREER DAY 2008 SET FOR APRIL 8Spring Career Day, one of Ohio State’s campuswide job fairs is scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday (4/8) in the Huntington Club in Ohio Stadium with more than 100 employers from numerous industries seeking to fill fulltime, part-time, and internship positions. Faculty and staff are encouraged to pass information about the fair along to students. More than 1,100 students attended last year. Each week faculty, staff, students and community members read from their favorite works. This week's program features readers Jillian Brandt, Larry Hurtubise, Karen Richards, and Marguerite Weibel from the Prior Health Sciences Library and Center for Knowledge Management who will offer readings from Walt Whitman, William Carlos Williams, and others reflecting on the intersection of medicine and literature. High St., Suite 430 for newly hired faculty and staff to help with decisions regarding their retirement choices under ARP/OPERS/STRS. The seminar is designed for faculty and staff who have an appointment of at least 75 percent FTE and have been with the university for less than 120 days.
