St. John Arena on Wednesday (2/27). Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the program begins at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public, and demand for parking will be high. The event is expected to attract thousands of visitors to campus on Wednesday. Many spaces that are usually available for staff parking around St. John Arena will be reserved for event parking. Those individuals should consider planning to arrive early or seek alternate campus parking options. Public parking will be available at the Schottenstein Center Scarlet 3-5 and Grey 3-7 Lots and the Buckeye Lots. SCHOOL OF MUSIC, DANCE TEAM UP FOR DRUMS DOWNTOWN VThe OSU School of Music Percussion Ensemble joins forces with the Department of Dance to prevent a powerful performance of Drums Downtown V at 8 p.m. Friday (2/29) and Saturday (3/1) at the Riffe Center’s Capitol Theatre, 77 S. High St. The show combines original music, new choreography, 3D animation and more. Fifty music and dance students will perform in Dance Downtown selections, which include a massive hip-hop piece, Gershwin jazz and global percussion sounds. CURL DRIVE CLOSURE TO BEGIN FEB. 27In preparation for the start of construction on the new Lane Avenue Parking Garage, Curl Drive will be closed for utility roadwork between Peasley Street and Neil Avenue from Wednesday (2/27) through the beginning of spring quarter. The section of Curl Drive between Woodruff Avenue and Peasley Street will remain open, allowing traffic to access Lane Avenue via Peasley Street. The parking lot and parallel parking spaces located just north of Drackett Tower will be accessible, via Neil Avenue, for "B" parking permit holders during the road closures. For the duration of the closure, the Courtesy Shuttle will not service Curl Drive and Neil Avenue. Riders may use the North Dorms bus stop, located on Woodruff Avenue, just south of Blackburn House, to access the Courtesy Shuttle. Read more > DEADLINE FOR OUTREACH GRANT PROPOSALS IS FEB. 29Time is running out to submit your proposal for grants to support outreach and engagement. The deadline is Friday (2/29) for these grants: Excellence in Engagement (University Outreach and Engagement), Course Development Grants (Continuing Education), Course Development/Course Enhancement Grants (Service-Learning Initiative), and Faculty Support and Seed Grants (OSU CARES/OSU Extension). Requests for proposals are available online. BRIDGING THE GAP DIVERSITY CONFERENCE MARCH 1The Bridging the Gap diversity conference will take place from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday (3/1) at the Hale Cultural Center. In addition to attending sessions concerning campus issues, conference participants will take part in World Café, a unique opportunity that allows participants to converse in small groups and share their knowledge while learning from others. The free conference is sponsored by Undergraduate Student Government, the Multicultural Center, and Coca-Cola. Those attending will receive free lunch and t-shirts. LIBRARIES READALOUD TO FEATUURE AFRICAN LITERATUREThe OSU Libraries ReadAloud program continues from 3-4 p.m. Thursday (2/28) at the Wexner Center Cafe. Each week faculty, staff, students and community members read from their favorite works. This week, Ruthmarie Mitsch, Department of African American and African Studies, and Brenda Goodwin, University Libraries will present a program celebrating African literature from Sundiata to el Saadawi, and will also share the music and lyrics of some modern griots. Read more > OSU NEWARK PRESENTS TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLINDThe Ohio State Newark Department of Theatre will present its winter production “Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind” on Thursday (2/28), Friday (2/29) and Saturday (3/1), and again Thursday (3/6), Friday (3/7) and Saturday (3/8). All performances will be at 8 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre in LeFevre Hall. The seven-member ensemble will perform 30 plays in 60 minutes. Tickets are $1 to $6.
