Headline newsOHIO STATE NAMED TO HIGHER EDUCATION COMMUNITY SERVICE HONOR ROLLOhio State was announced as a member with distinction in the second annual President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service, at the American Council on Education’s annual meeting held recently in San Diego. The application was compiled by the Service-Learning Initiative on behalf of the university. The honor roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support innovative, effective and exemplary community service programs; criteria include percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service, and the extent to which the school offers service-learning courses. TODAY: OPEN LINE FEATURING PRESIDENT GEE TO AIR ON BIG TEN NETWORKOhio State will air a special Open Line with Fred Andrle on the Big Ten Network at 11 a.m. today (2/27) featuring President E. Gordon Gee discussing education in America and goals for Ohio State. As a guest on WOSU 820 AM’s Open Line in December 2007, Gee addressed questions from audience members and callers and those submitted online prior to the broadcast. BIOINFORMATICS EXPERT TO SPEAK AT OARDC FEB. 29Lonnie Welch, Stuckey professor of electrical engineering and computer science at Ohio University, will present “New Frontiers in Computational Genomics” from 11 a.m.-noon Friday (2/29), video-linked to OSU locations in Wooster and Columbus. Stuckey is a doctoral graduate of Ohio State in computer and information science. Attend in 121 Fisher Auditorium on the OARDC Wooster campus, 1680 Madison Ave., or in 244 Kottman Hall on the Columbus campus. BASHAASHA IS CENTER FOR AFRICAN STUDIES SPEAKER SERIES GUESTBernard Bashaasha, Department Head, Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at Makerere University, Uganda will present “Practical Models of Inter-University Collaboration in Graduate Programs in Eastern and Central Africa” at noon Friday (2/29) in 122 Oxley Hall. Part of the OSU Center for African Studies “Reflections on Higher Education in Africa” speaker series, the lecture is free and open to the public. These events, along with other events in the vicinity will make parking difficult and may impact your commute to and from campus.
