Headline newsBRUEGGEMEIER TO RECEIVE AMERICAN PHARMACISTS ASSOCIATION AWARDRobert Brueggemeier, OSU professor and dean of the College of Pharmacy, has been selected to receive the Tyler Prize for Stimulation of Research Award by the American Pharmacists Association, to be presented in March at the APhA Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego, Calif. The award recognizes outstanding stimulation of research in peers, students, fellows, residents and others via publications or by research directing, serving as a preceptor, or mentoring in any discipline of the pharmaceutical sciences. His areas of research specialization are medicinal chemistry, steroid chemistry and biochemistry, and hormones and breast cancer. TODAY: ROSOL TO DELIVER STATE OF THE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE ADDRESSTom Rosol, dean and Ruth Stanton Chair of Veterinary Medicine, will deliver his annual State of the College presentation from 3-4 p.m. today (2/29) in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Auditorium. Rosol will present “Successes, Opportunities and Challenges,” the college’s collective plans for 2008 and beyond. A reception will follow in the Hummel Grand Lounge of the Veterinary Medicine Academic Building. Alumnus Gil Cloyd, chair of the OSU Board of Trustees and chief technology officer of Procter & Gamble Co., will offer introductory comments. Cloyd received his DVM from OSU in 1969. Contact: weber.254@osu.edu or 292-3752 RICHARDSON TO DISCUSS SOCIAL SERVICES AND OLDER AFRICAN AMERICAN ADULTSThe Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center is hosting a public lecture by Virginia Richardson, OSU professor of social work at 6 p.m. Monday (3/3) at the center, 905 Mt. Vernon Ave. In her lecture, “Use of Services Among Older African American Adults” Richardson will discuss the use of social services among older African Americans, focusing on psychosocial and cultural influences that affect help-seeking behavior among this population. Recommendations for improving access to and delivering services to these older persons will be made. The lecture is free and will conclude with a question-answer session. Contact: 292-3922. Read more > OFFICE HOURS FOR HELP WITH IRB SUBMISSIONSThe Office of Responsible Research Practices holds office hours to help researchers prepare IRB submissions and exemption requests. These sessions are intended to help student and faculty researchers navigate IRB forms, policies and review procedures. The next session for biomedical/cancer researchers will take place from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday (3/5) in 652 Fry Hall. APPLICANTS SOUGHT FOR TRANSNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROJECTThe Transnational Feminisms Graduate Organization at Ohio State is seeking participants for the Gender and Emancipation: Perspectives from East and West - Transnational Exchange Project. Students interested in participating in an international dialogue about gender and emancipation, and transnational feminism with students and young scholars from Germany, Sudan and Syria are encouraged to apply by Friday (3/21). Participation in discussions during spring quarter will serve as the foundation for a weeklong conference in August in Berlin. Details and application instructions are available online. LIBRARIES’ JEWISH LITERATURE SERIES KICKS OFF MARCH 31OSU Libraries is repeating a five-part reading and discussion series, “Let’s Talk About It: Jewish Literature - Identity and Imagination,” starting Monday (3/31). The series will explore the theme Modern Marvels: Jewish Adventures in the Graphic Novel, and will be led by Steven Fink, OSU professor of English. Discussions will be held on Monday evenings from 7-8:30 p.m. in the seminar room adjacent to the Cartoon Research Library in the Wexner Center for the Arts. Altenburg, former Appointing Authority for Military Commissions, will discuss “Military Commission Process: November 2001 to March 2008” at noon Monday (3/3) at the Barrister Club, 25 W. 11th Ave. Altenburg was responsible for reviewing charges and evidence against people detained by the United States in Afghanistan and held at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base. He was a major force behind changes in Military Commission procedures from the time of the first presidential order until today.
