Soil scientist develops 10 principles to sustainable soil management
From food security to climate change to energy demands, the world faces a myriad of critical sustainability issues, all whose potential solution may lie right beneath our feet. Rattan Lal, an Ohio State soil scientist with the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, suggests that soil and its resources are the answer, and sustainability can be achieved through the realization of 10 basic management principles. Lal synthesized years of scientific literature on soil degradation and the positive impacts of restoration and developed 10 basic principles of sustainable soil management. Read more >

LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. 2009 Campus Campaign kicks off this week
The annual Campus Campaign commenced Sunday (2/1) and runs through Thursday (4/30). Since 1985, OSU employees participating in the university-wide initiative have donated more than $121 million to funds supporting campus needs, student scholarships, staff development, animal welfare, medical research, and the arts. Wetlands Open House celebrates World Wetlands Day today
An open house at the Olentangy River Wetlands will celebrate World Wetlands Day from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. today (2/2) at the Heffner Wetland Building at the Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, 352 W. Dodridge. Enjoy free hot cider and cookies; international wetland research displays and local fare; continuous showing of Olentangy River Wetland documentary; and a search for muskrat Olentangy Olga. The Center for the Study of Religion will present a lecture by David T. M. Frankfurter of the University of New Hampshire at 4:30 p.m. today (2/2) in 090 Science and Engineering Library. Feb. 11: Orientation to Research Administration at Ohio State
Orientation to Research Administration at Ohio State will take place
from 8:30 a.m.-noon Wednesday (2/11) in 117 Research Foundation. The workshop is the cornerstone of the Office of Research Training and Education Communication curriculum and provides an overview of the grants management process from preparation of the proposal through project close-out. Registration is required and is available online.
OSU Urban Arts Space call for entries
The OSU Urban Arts Space curates, co-curates and hosts a variety of exhibitions, programs, and classes and welcomes proposals and space requests from inside and outside of the university.
