Champion of children and families will speak at winter commencement
Yvette McGee Brown, president of the Center for Child and Family Advocacy at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, will be the speaker for Ohio State’s winter commencement, set for Sunday (3/22) in St. John Arena. Approximately 2,000 students will receive degrees during the ceremony, which begins at 1 p.m. A 1985 graduate of Ohio State’s Moritz College of Law, McGee Brown has had a distinguished career focused on improving the lives of young people. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Chancellor Fingerhut to explore economic impact of research at OARDC
Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut will visit the Wooster campus of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. today (2/5) to learn about several OARDC initiatives that are making an impact in Ohio’s economy. Those initiatives include state-of-the-art genetic studies for developing higher-yielding crops and bioproducts; research to keep food safe from foodborne pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella; and projects to generate renewable energy from waste and other biomass resources. “Economic Hit Man” to speak at Wexner today
Author John Perkins will deliver "Transforming Turmoil into a New Economy" at 7 p.m. today (2/5) in the Wexner Center’s Mershon Auditorium. Perkins will discuss the perils of our market-based economy and the potential for positive change. His book, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, spent more than 70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller lists. The lecture and book signing is free for OSU faculty, staff, and students. Feb. 6 lecture tackles Energy Scarcity, Our Future
Seppo Korpela, OSU professor emeritus of mechanical engineering, will present “Energy Scarcity and Our Future” at noon Friday (2/6) at 219 Agricultural Engineering Building and by video link to the OARDC in Wooster (212 Agricultural Engineering Building). C-SPAN Civics Bus visits Ohio State Feb. 6
The C-SPAN Civics Bus is on the road on its “100 Days, 100 Schools” tour and will make a stop at Ohio State on Friday (2/6).
