Nelson to deliver University Distinguished Lecture Feb. 19

Randy J. Nelson, Distinguished Professor of Social and Behavioral Sciences and director, Neuroscience Graduate Studies, will deliver "Seasonal Rhythms in Sex and Death: A Time to be Born and a Time to Die," at 4:30 p.m. Thursday (2/19) at 130 Saxbe Auditorium, Moritz College of Law. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Upcoming ePayroll PIN reset requirement

As part of the university’s ongoing commitment to secure employee personal information and as required by our ePayroll vendor (TALX), beginning on February 15, employees accessing the ePayroll System will be prompted to change their PIN every 90 days. Changing PINs regularly is a good security practice, and changing them every 90 days is consistent with the password change policy on many important OSU systems, including the university’s PeopleSoft administrative systems. Knowlton to host From Palazzo to Piazza

OSU faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in From Palazzo to Piazza—a conference celebrating the addition to the Columbus Museum of Art. Session topics include the history of museum architecture, art as communication, and exhibition design, among others. The Friday, February 13 sessions will take place at the Knowlton School of Architecture, while the sessions on the 12th and 14th will take place at the Columbus Museum of Art. The KSA graduate design studio will exhibit their proposals for the museum expansion at the event opening at the Columbus Museum of Art on Thursday, February 12. Read more >

University leaders from Iraq visit Ohio State

Presidents -- or rectors as they are known as in Iraq -- of seven Iraqi universities are visiting Ohio State this week to learn how some U.S. universities are managed. The visit is part of a U.S. State Department “International Visitor Leadership Program,” which invites the presidents to “examine the university system in the United States, share best practices and innovations in the ways universities and colleges are managed, and to establish links for future cooperation.” The officials arrived on Tuesday (2/10) and depart early on Saturday (2/14). During their stay, they will tour labs and other facilities, meet with exchange students, faculty, university administrators, and state education leaders. They also will visit other places in Columbus, including Franklin University, Easton Town Center and the Noor Islamic Center. The Association of Staff and Faculty Women February luncheon discussion topic is “Influencing Through Research: Creating Equity in the Workplace," from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday (2/19) in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge. Joan Herbers will speak as the principal investigator of a federally funded initiative designed to help female faculty advance in the sciences at Ohio State. ReadAloud Valentine's Day program Feb. 12

OSU Libraries ReadAloud's annual Valentine's Day program is presented in partnership with the Ohioana Library from 3-4 p.m. Thursday (2/12) in the Wexner Center Cafe and features Donna MacMeans. MacMeans writes historic and seductive romance fiction and will share a selection from her sequel to "The Education of Mrs. Brimley" titled "The Seduction of a Duke," a marriage of convenience story with a twist, which will be released this April. Institute for Chinese Studies films series to show Still Life

The Institute for Chinese Studies Future of the Past Film Series will continue today (2/11) at 7:00 p.m. in 040 Jennings with Still Life. The 2006 film takes place in the city of Fengjie, a city upstream of the massive Three Gorges Dam. Now marked for flooding, the city undergoes a process of self-deconstruction in the movie.
