Cruz receives prestigious IEEE Education Medal
Jose Cruz, professor of electrical and computer engineering and former dean of the College of Engineering, is the 2009 recipient of the IEEE James H. Mulligan, Jr. Education Medal, one of the highest professional acclaims that one can receive from IEEE peers. In addition to this recent honor, Cruz is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of IEE, AAAS, ASEE and IFAC. Read more >

LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. SBS announces Huber Faculty Fellows
The Social and Behavioral Sciences recently announced its selection of the 2009 Joan N. Huber Faculty Fellows for outstanding scholarship. The selections are: David Blau, SBS distinguished professor of economics, William “Chip” Eveland, professor and graduate program coordinator, school of communication, and Gary Wenk, professor of psychology & neuroscience & molecular virology. The fellowships are named in honor of Joan Huber, SBS dean from 1984-1992 and OSU senior vice president for academic affairs and provost until her 1993 retirement. Shared Governance in Action panel discussion Feb. 19
The University Senate and the OSU Chapter of the AAUP are co-sponsoring an open panel discussion, “Shared Governance in Action” from 3-5 p.m. Thursday (2/19) in the Smith Lecture Hall of the Physics Research Building. This event may be of particular interest to assistant professors and those new to the Ohio State faculty. Topics include the role of faculty in the governance of the university, a review of promotion and tenure rules, an introduction to the Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility and lessons learned from recent cases. Traffic alert: Tuttle Park Place detour begins today
Beginning today (2/16), Tuttle Park Place will be closed between Lane and Neil Avenues. View a map of the closures. Pedestrian detours will also be required and sidewalks through Remembrance Park will be closed (NW corner of Tuttle and Woody Hayes); the north/south and east/west sidewalks along Woody Hayes and Tuttle will remain open.
OSU Mansfield to present “President Obama’s Paternal Ancestral Roots
Ohio State Mansfield will present the lecture “President Obama’s Paternal Ancestral Roots: From Southern Sudan to Kenya” at noon Tuesday (2/17) in the Eisenhower Student Union. The Future of Classroom Technology Feb. 17
Join Vantage Technology for "The Future of Classroom Technology" from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday (2/17) in the Learning Collaboration Studio (060 Science and Engineering Library). As part of OSU's Instructional Space Study, Vantage Technology will showcase simple and full-featured presentation systems, classrooms connected to centrally-networked resources, automated classroom capture and distribution, and discuss technologies aimed at increasing student involvement and classrooms designed specifically for high involvement and experiential teaching and learning. John Hemingway to discuss family memoir Feb. 17
John Hemingway, grandson of Nobel Laureate Ernest Hemingway, will discuss his critically acclaimed family memoir Strange Tribe (2007) at 7 p.m. Tuesday (2/17) in the Wexner Film and Video Theater. Every Wednesday in February, the Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center will host Where do we go from here? Black History Forums. Each forum will convene at the Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Vernon Ave. Rev. Joel King, Union Grove Baptist Church and Rev. IRB forms help session Feb 18
Investigators, graduate students and research staff are encouraged to attend a help session on IRB applications from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday (2/18) in 113 Research Foundation. Responsible Research Practices staff will provide an overview of the Initial Review of Human Subjects Research application and answer questions regarding other IRB forms. This session is targeted to researchers who submit materials to the Biomedical and Cancer IRBs, but is open to all human subjects researchers. Eye on Alumni airs on Big Ten Network
A new episode of Eye on Alumni will air on the Big Ten Network at 4 p.m. Thursday (2/19), 4 a.m. Monday (2/23), and 10 a.m. Wednesday (2/25). This episode focuses on alumni who have "paid it forward" in their careers and their communities. Those featured include Archie Griffin, two-time Heisman Trophy winner and president and CEO of the OSU Alumni Association, and Stefanie Spielman, a breast cancer survivor who has raised more than $5 million for breast cancer research. OSU Clinical Research Professionals meeting Feb. 19
The next OSU Clinical Research Professionals meeting will take place from noon-1 p.m. Thursday (2/19) in 234 Meiling Hall and will focus on Research and the Medical Center implementation of the ambulatory electronic medical record system called PatientLink Ambulatory.
