How Race Survived U.S. History author to visit campus

Join the Kirwan Institute for an African American History Month lecture by David Roediger, a leading historian of race and labor, at 3 p.m. Wednesday (2/25) at the Hale Cultural Center. The Kendrick C. Babock Professor of History at the University of Illinois, Roediger will lead a discussion about his new book, How Race Survived U.S. History. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Black Leadership: Past, Present and Future Feb. 25

Sybil Edwards-McNabb, past president of the Columbus Chapter of the NAACP and Charleta B. Tavares, Columbus City Council member will discuss "Black Leadership: Past, Present and Future" from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday (2/25) at the Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Vernon Ave. Every Wednesday in February, the center will host "Where do we go from here? Black History Forums" designed to educate & engage the African American community on issues that will impact the future. Read more >

Optometry partners with Penn State Erie

The OSU College of Optometry has established its first professional program affiliation agreement, a 3 + 4 optometry program with the School of Science at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The arrangement offers Penn State Behrend students the opportunity to begin pursuing a doctor of optometry degree one year early. A student who completes the joint program will earn a bachelors degree in biology from Penn State Behrend and a doctor of optometry degree from Ohio State. Read more >

Amnesty International hosts Human Rights Conference

Amnesty International is hosting a Human Rights Conference from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday (2/28) on the first floor of Mendenhall Lab. Human-trafficking expert and Ohio-based activist Kathleen Davis will lead a discussion around the human trafficking issue, and the keynote address will be delivered by a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo speaking on behalf of Friends of the Congo. Volunteers sought for March 19 Women in Science Day

Approximately 300 girls in grades 6-8 and their teachers will attend the 25th Women in Science Day on the OSU campus on Thursday (3/19). Volunteers are needed to guide small groups of girls to and from various workshops. OSU students, alumni, faculty and staff of either gender are welcome to volunteer. Register by Monday (3/9).
