Ohio State political science professors recognized for scholarly excellence
The Institute for the Theory and Practice of International Relations survey of international relations faculty in 10 countries selected Alexander Wendt, professor of political science and the Ralph D. Mershon professor of international security as one of the top five scholars whose work has had the greatest influence on the field of international relations in the past 20 years. The survey also cited Wendt and Randall Schweller, professor of political science as scholars who have produced the most interesting scholarship in the area of international relations in the past five years. LIFESTYLE INTERVENTION STUDY. Volunteers, individuals ages 35-60, are being recruited for a lifestyle intervention study to modify health risk factors. The study will be conducted on the OSU campus during lunch time. Participation in the study will last approximately 12 weeks. Several blood samples and filling out of questionnaires will be required. Today: President Gee to meet with faculty
OSU President Gordon Gee will meet with the American Association of University Professors membership from 4-5 p.m. today (2/26) in 191 Mendenhall Lab. The meeting is not exclusive to AAUP members. Arts and Sciences to change its business processes
Following an extensive external review of its fiscal and human resources structures and processes, Arts and Sciences is moving ahead to implement the recommendations that include ways to streamline business processes and restructure the business organization by creating shared service centers for fiscal and HR transaction-level activities. Other recommendations focus on longer term implementation of new technology solutions and possible staff reductions. Read more >
Wuhan University delegation learns how to be a Buckeye
A visit with Brutus Buckeye, learning the O-H-I-O cheer and breakfast at the RPAC kicked off a three-week visit to OSU by a delegation of 13 from Wuhan University in China. The delegation will be on campus through Friday (3/13) to learn more about how Ohio State works with students outside of the classroom through the Office of Student Life. The delegation will meet with experts in the field who manage Ohio State’s residence and dining halls, recreational facilities, and student union operations, among other areas. Read more >
Bart Ehrman and Jodi Magness on Religion in the Media
The Center for the Study of Religion is sponsoring an event at 4:30 p.m. Friday (2/27) in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge that will include addresses by Bart Ehrman and Jodi Magness, both of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Feb. 27: Bachner to present Chinese Studies “Future of the Past” lecture
The Institute for Chinese Studies “Future of the Past” Lecture Series continues at 2:30 p.m. Friday (2/27) in 164 Jennings Hall. Andrea Bachner, OSU assistant professor of Comparative and World Literatures will deliver “Future's Other Pasts: Primitivism in Contemporary Sinophone Texts.” The lecture will focus on how texts use primitivism to renegotiate the complexity of “Chineseness” from their specific cultural contexts in the face of interculturality. InterACT Diversity Players will present "Gender and Authority in Your Teaching" from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday (3/3) at 150 Younkin Success Center, and "Keys to a Successful Advisor/Advisee Relationship in Graduate School," from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday (3/5) in the Drake Performance and Event Center's Bowen Theatre. The OSU Urban Arts Space, 50 W. Town St. in downtown Columbus is hosting a community critique from 6-8 p.m. today (2/26) as artists and patrons discuss artists' new work, design and direction and seek feedback from their peers.
