President Gee recommends tuition freeze for upcoming academic year

-- Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee announced Wednesday (2/20) his plans to recommend holding in-state undergraduate tuition at the 2012-13 level for the upcoming 2013-14 academic year. If approved, tuition will hold steady at $10,036.80 for the 2013-14 school year. President Gee shared his plans as part of his testimony to the Ohio House Subcommittee on Higher Education. Gee was speaking in affirmation of Gov. Kasich’s new state higher education budget plan, which ties state higher education funding to graduation rates. President Gee led the effort to craft that higher education budget proposal.

President Obama to deliver spring commencement address

 -- President Barack Obama will deliver Ohio State's spring commencement address on Sunday (5/5) in Ohio Stadium. “This is a historic occasion for the university, the city of Columbus, and our graduates and their families,” said President E. Gordon Gee. “We are honored to have President Obama address our graduates at the university’s largest commencement ever. To be sure, this is a signal moment in the life of one of the most vibrant and vital universities in our nation.”

Faculty judges needed for Denman Undergrad Research Forum

-- The 2013 annual Denman Undergraduate Research Forum is on Thursday (3/28) at the RPAC. Faculty members from all disciplines, including the professional colleges, are needed to serve as judges. The time commitment on Thursday (3/28) is 10:30-11:30 a.m. to check-in and noon-2:30 p.m. to judge student projects. Taste of OSU delivers international cuisine and cultural insight

-- The Office of International Affairs, along with more than 30 Ohio State student organizations and Dining Services chefs, will host an evening of international food, exhibits and cultural performances at the 2013 Taste of OSU, Friday (2/22) from 5-9 p.m. in the Ohio Union. The event is free and open to all Ohio State students, faculty, staff and friends. Food tickets cost $1 each (cash and BuckID only), and can be exchanged for samples of international cuisine.

Terrorism expert to speak on war criminals in Yugoslavia

 -- Jessica Stern, fellow at the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Human Rights at Harvard University, will speak about “Perpetrators of Atrocity: A Work in Progress” at 3 p.m. Thursday (2/28) at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. She is author of Denial: A Memoir of Terror, Terror in the Name of God: Why Religious Militants Kill, and The Ultimate Terrorists. She will speak on her latest project, which involves detailed interviews with people indicted or convicted of war crimes by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.
