DEVELOPMENT FUND WAREHOUSE LAUNCHED TODAY

Starting today (3/1), the Development Fund Warehouse, a Web-based application that combines financial information from the General Ledger, Endowment, Student Financial Aid and Development Funds is available. It was created for university personnel whose roles include planning for and disbursement of accounts that are supported by Development dollars, or money that has been given to the university to supports its students, faculty and programs by alumni and friends of the institution. Access to DFW is contingent upon completion of a brief training session - available beginning Friday (3/2). A schedule of training sessions is available at www.ud.osu.edu/UDweb (click on the Training link).

WOSU PUBLIC MEDIA HOSTS LUNCHEON WITH JIM LEHRER

WOSU Public Media, in partnership with the Columbus Metropolitan Club, will host a luncheon with Jim Lehrer, award-winning executive editor and anchor of PBS’s The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer at noon Wednesday (3/14) in the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The NewsHour airs locally on WOSU TV. Lehrer, author of “The Phony Marine,” will deliver a keynote speech focusing on public broadcasting and journalism and participate in a question-and-answer session. INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS CALL FOR PROPOSALS

The Office of International Affairs is awarding grants of up to $5,000 to support interdisciplinary lectures, seminar series or conferences on international themes. Proposals are invited from faculty, interdisciplinary and area study centers, and academic units. Eligibility is contingent upon the commitment of partial counterpart funds from other OSU or extramural sources. Application forms are due Friday (4/13) and are available online. LIBRARIES’ READALOUD CONTINUES TODAY

The OSU Libraries’ weekly ReadAloud program continues from 3-4 p.m. today (3/1) in the new Wexner Center Cafe: Cam’s on Campus. The program features Eboni Francis and Leta Hendricks, University Libraries, with readings that inspired the work of artist Glenn Ligon including “The Ballot or the Bullet” by Malcolm X and Zora Neale Huston’s essay: “How it Feels To Be Colored Me” (1928). DEVOR TO OFFER HEALTHY AGING ADVICE AT FITNESS EXPO

Steven Devor, OSU professor of sport and exercise science, will discuss “The importance of engaging in an active lifestyle,” at 1 p.m. Friday (3/2) at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom. Devor’s appearance is part of the Active Aging Festival within the Arnold Fitness Expo. Other participants in the festival include Jack and Elaine LaLanne, pioneers of TV fitness shows and inventors of the jumping jack, and Robert Goldman, founder and chair of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. PUBLIC DISCOURSE ON THE DEATH PENALTY MARCH 2

An interdisciplinary symposium, “Being Alive in the World: Public Discourse on the Death Penalty,” will take place from 3:30-5 p.m. Friday (3/2) in Thurber Theatre. The panel discussion will involve retired prison warden Rex Zent, David Jacobs (Sociology), Joshua Dressler (Law), John Bender (Franklin County Common Pleas Court), Maureen Ryan (Theatre) and Mark Shanda (Theatre). The symposium is free and is being held in connection with the production of “Dead Man Walking,” showing through Saturday (3/3) in Thurber Theatre.

OSU HOSTS WOMEN IN SCIENCE DAY MARCH 29

Several opportunities are available as OSU prepares to host the 23rd Women in Science Day, sponsored by the Association for Women in Science of Central Ohio on Thursday (3/29). Faculty, staff and students wishing to volunteer for the event may contact the program director, Raquel Diaz-Sprague, PharmD at diaz-sprague.1@osu.edu or 268-1488. A mostly female team of faculty and staff in science, mathematics, engineering, and medicine will offer workshops for girls in grades six-nine. Registration is open to school groups. CSE RESEARCH POSTER EXHIBITION SET FOR MARCH 2

More than 35 Computer Science and Engineering graduate students will be presenting summaries of their research during the first CSE Research Poster Exhibition from 2:30-5 p.m. Friday (3/2) in the Knowlton Hall Lobby. The work will cross CSE’s five research focus areas: Artificial Intelligence, Graphics, Networking, Software Engineering and Systems. Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend. BUSINESS LIBRARY DATABASE OF THE MONTH

The eMarketer database is a new service that provides research and trends about the Internet, e-business, online marketing, media and emerging technologies. It provides information from more than 2,800 sources and brings it together in the form of analyst reports and articles on e-business and statistics on marketing. It helps researchers keep up-to-date on trends such as blogs, social networking, podcasting and mobile marketing to name a few of the topics that have an impact on business. HAPPY HOUR GRADUATE DANCE PERFORMANCE MARCH 1-3

MFA dance students Jeff Fouch and Jaclyn Thompson along with Sarah Hixon will present a Graduate Dance Performance of “Happy Hour” at 8 p.m. today (3/1)-Saturday (3/3) in Sullivant Hall Theatre. The production includes a restaging of “Cafe Barcelona,” an excerpt from Sophie Maslow’s work “Folksay” (1942), “Sebastian” performed on stilts, and “Within the Interstice,” a new choreographic work by Hixon. OUT AT WEX SET FOR MARCH 1-3

Out at Wex, a cinematic celebration of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community, takes place at the Wexner Center today (3/1)-Saturday (3/3). The three-day, seven-film festival includes visiting filmmakers, a celebration party, a tribute to Strand Releasing, and the local premiere of the critically acclaimed “Wild Tigers I Have Known.” Contact: epepple@wexarts.org
