Headline newsBENZAKEIN RECEIVES TOP AWARD IN AERONAUTICSMeyer (Mike) Benzakein, chair of the Department of Aerospace Engineering,
has been named the recipient of the 2007 Reed Aeronautics Award from
the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. It is the highest
award an individual can receive for achievements in the field of aeronautical
science and engineering. Benzakein, recognized throughout the aviation
industry as a leader in the field of aeropropulsion engineering, including
working closely with NASA and the U.S. Air Force, will receive the
award at the AIAA Aerospace Spotlight Awards Gala on Tuesday (5/15)

G. GILBERT CLOYD ELECTED OHIO STATE BOARD CHAIRMANThe Ohio State Board of Trustees unanimously elected G. Gilbert Cloyd of Cincinnati as its 2007-09 chairperson at its Friday (3/2) meeting. Cloyd will serve as chair-elect until the board’s May meeting when he will take office as chair for a two-year term. He was appointed to the board by Gov. Bob Taft in December 2005. Cloyd, a Cleveland native, is chief technology officer of Procter & Gamble. He earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ohio State in 1969. CHAMALLAS TO PRESENT CIVIL RIGHTS AND CIVIL WRONGSProfessor Martha Chamallas, the Robert J. Lynn Chair in Law in the
Moritz College of Law, will present a 2006-07 University Distinguished
Lecture, “Civil Rights and Civil Wrongs: Race, Gender and Tort
Law,” at 4:30 p.m. Monday (3/12) in the Wexner Center Film/Video
Theater. A reception will follow. The lecture also will be broadcast
live on the Internet beginning at 4:30 EST at http://streaming.service.ohio-state.edu/live3.htm
and will be archived for future downloading. The lecture series is

The lecture is part of the College of Humanities Inaugural Lecture Series that honors Humanities faculty who have obtained the rank of full professor, and provides the opportunity to present their work and research interests to fellow college faculty and other university guests. Gaitskill's most recent novel, “Veronica,” was listed as one of the 10 Best Books of 2005 by the New York Times and was a finalist for this year’s National Book Award. Her short story “The Secretary” was the basis of the 2002 movie of the same name. A commemorative program listing the honorees, books selected and personal statements will be available at the exhibit in the Leisure Reading Room and the books are available for circulation.
