Niederhuber, director of the National Cancer Institute and a 1964 OSU College of Medicine graduate, will deliver the keynote address for a medical alumni lecture at 4 p.m. Wednesday (3/7). Niederhuber will discuss the evolution of cancer treatment - past, present and future. SBS ANNOUNCES HUBER FACULTY FELLOWSThe College of Social and Behavioral Sciences recently announced its selection of the 2007 Joan N. Huber Faculty Fellows for outstanding scholarship. The selections are: Richard Herrmann, professor of political science, Mark Pitt, professor of psychology, and Vincent Roscigno, professor of Sociology. The fellowships are named in honor of Huber, who served as dean of SBS from 1984-1992 and as senior vice president for academic affairs and provost until her 1993 retirement. Fellows receive an annual cash award of $5,000 for three years to further their research programs. Beginning Monday (3/26) as part of Your Plan for Health, Ohio State will launch the 2007 Faculty and Staff Incentive Program, which will reward OSU employees for making healthy choices. Eligible participants can earn points by engaging in designated healthy activities through Sunday (9/30). Accumulated points will translate into money paid directly to participants. OSU PRESENTS OPERA: THE ELIXIR OF LOVEOSU’s new opera director Peter Kozma is staging his first major opera production on campus this quarter - a modernized version of “The Elixir of Love” by Gaetano Donizetti - to be presented at 8 p.m. Friday (3/9) and Saturday (3/10) and 3 p.m. Sunday (3/11) in Mershon Auditorium. The production of Donizetti’s 19th century comic opera centers on the timeless struggle of males and females in love - a light-hearted story filled with lovers’ quarrels, magic potions and commercialism. The opera has a cast of 40 students, and will be sung in Italian with English supertitles, accompanied by an orchestra of student musicians. PHILOSOPHER TO LECTURE ON EXISTENTIALISM AND BUDDHISMJack Mulder of Hope College will deliver “Nothingness and Religious Awakening: Points of Contact in Kierkegaard and Buddhism,” from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday (3/8) at the Psychology Building (room 10). Mulder will discuss Soren Kierkegaard’s Christian philosophy and theology with a view to important points of contact that Kierkegaard’s thought exhibits with the Buddhist tradition. Mulder suggests that there is much less to stand in the way of dialogue between Kierkegaardians and Buddhists than is commonly thought. Contact: paradiso-michau.1@osu.edu CRITICAL DIFFERENCE GRANT APPLICATIONS AVAILABLEProfessional Development and Women of Color Advancement Grants are available for women faculty and staff continuously employed by Ohio State for at least one year, and students (graduate/professional students with a 3.0 GPA and undergraduates with a 2.5 GPA). Grants can be used for research, supplies, dependent care, travel, etc. Significant financial need is a key consideration. Applications are due Thursday (4/19). Apply online. The Ohio State team, comprised of eight female undergraduate engineering students, will be designing and building a structure out of Girl Scout cookie boxes for display at the Polaris Mall Friday (3/9)-Thursday (3/15). The winning structure will be determined by the public and voting will take place thoughout the weeklong display period. Web site designed to help and encourage middle school students to explore
career fields relevant to their lives. The site focuses on information
technology, health sciences, engineering and science technology and
arts and communication. It also includes a mentoring system that allows
students to draw from the experiences of practitioners and to receive
real-life insights into the demands of a given career or occupation.
High school students who have internships or mentorships, or professionals

SCHEDULE YOUR PHA SCREENING TODAYBeat the Your Plan for Health Incentive Program rush by scheduling your free Personal Health Assessment screening before Monday (3/26). Available to faculty and staff weekdays at a number of locations around campus, a PHA or health screening measures vital health statistics, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, weight and height. Screenings and the completion of the online PHA questionnaire are recommended every 12 months. This year, both are key activities in earning points under the Your Plan for Health Incentive Program.
