The university may soon have a course that helps build leadership skills and team cohesiveness. A campaign by the Department of Recreational Sports - in partnership with the Army, Navy and Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps - to raise $700,000 in private funding to build a Leadership Challenge Campus Course behind the Adventure Recreation Center starts later this month. 2008-09 FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR AWARD COMPETITION OPENThe Fulbright Scholar Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State and administered by the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars, offers approximately 800 awards annually to U.S. faculty, librarians and professionals to lecture and/or conduct research abroad. Positions are available in nearly 130 countries and in virtually all disciplines. The application deadline is Wednesday (8/1). Contact: kukielka-blaser.1@osu.edu OHIO UNION CONSTRUCTION WORK MOVING FORWARDInstallation of the fence around the perimeter of the Ohio Union to accommodate construction work will start the week of Monday (3/12). The fence will start from the north and move south on both the High Street and College Road sides of the Union. The bus stops at the Union will also be removed the same week. In addition, during the time the new Ohio Union is under construction, Transportation and Parking will be refurbishing part of the existing Ohio Union garage, tearing down a poorly functioning portion and rebuilding 800 new spaces in a garage that will be adjacent to the new Union. The project will be completed in four phases starting in April. SNOW IS OSU NEWARK RESEARCH FORUM LECTUREROhio State Newark will host its annual Student Research Forum from 12:30-5 p.m. Thursday (3/8) in the Reese Center Ballroom. A panel of OSU Newark faculty will judge poster presentations of student research projects. Prizes will be awarded to the winning presenters. The guest speaker is Allison Snow, professor of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology and director of OSU’s Undergraduate Research Office. in Networking: A Unifying Approach,” at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (3/8)
in 260 Dreese Laboratory. Eryilmaz will present new algorithms, discuss
the problem of the delay performance of network coding, introduce a
key scenario used to reveal delay gains obtained from network coding
over traditional strategies and explain the economic benefits in a
dynamic setting, and give an overview of several projects that also
led to fundamental and surprising findings. Eryilmaz is visiting as
an ECE faculty candidate. INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY EVENT MARCH 8“Milagros: Made in Mexico,” a documentary film for International Women’s Day, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday (3/8) in 250 Knowlton Hall. The one-hour film captures women creating economic self-reliance in the hope of bringing their families home. A reception and question and answer with filmmaker Martina Guzman will follow the film.
