CHAMALLAS TO PRESENT CIVIL RIGHTS AND CIVIL WRONGS

Professor Martha Chamallas, the Robert J. Lynn Chair in Law in the Moritz College of Law, will present a 2006-07 University Distinguished Lecture, “Civil Rights and Civil Wrongs: Race, Gender and Tort Law,” at 4:30 p.m. today (3/12) in the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. A reception will follow. The lecture also will be broadcast live on the Internet beginning at 4:30 p.m. EST and will be archived for future downloading. The lecture is free and open to the public. OSU RESEARCH: Stress and Immune Function During Pregnancy. Would you like to contribute to research exploring the effects of stress? Pregnant women ages 18-45 can participate in research on the effects of stress on immune function during pregnancy. Participation involves two-three visits. OSU MEN’S BASKETBALL NCAA TOURNAMENT TICKET DETAILS

Bill Jones, Ohio State assistant athletics director for ticketing, announced Sunday the policy for obtaining tickets to the Buckeyes’ 2007 NCAA first round men’s basketball game against Central Connecticut State, to be played Thursday (3/15) in Lexington, Ky. The tournament game times have not yet been announced. Check http://ohiostatebuckeyes.com for up-to-date information and further details throughout the week. OSU students, faculty and staff who ordered 2006-07 men’s basketball season tickets may place an application for a lottery ticket at the Schottenstein Center Ticket Office today (3/12). The winning lottery numbers will be posted this evening in the Schottenstein Center and online. Do you have Asthma? The Asthma Clinical Research Center at the OSU Medical Center is looking for volunteers to participate in asthma-related clinical trials. Patients must be at least 18 years of age, have been diagnosed by a physician as having asthma and currently be taking asthma medications. Participants may receive compensation. PERELSON IS MBI PUBLIC LECTURE SERIES GUEST MARCH 14

Alan S. Perelson, Theoretical Biology and Biophysics Group at Los Alamos National Laboratory, will deliver the next Mathematical Biosciences Institute Public Lecture at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (3/14) in the Fawcett Center Auditorium. Perelson will discuss “HIV/AIDS: How Mathematics Has Saved Lives.” The lecture is free and open to the public.

FIRST MAJOR TEST OF CAYUSE424 SUCCESSFUL

The university weathered the first major test of its new electronic proposal submission system, Cayuse424, with remarkable success. Sixty-five of 74 investigators submitting proposals to the National Institutes of Health for the February application deadlines chose Cayuse424 over the online version of Grants.Gov. All 65 Cayuse424 proposals were accepted error-free by the NIH Commons on the first attempt (compared with 74 percent of proposals nationally). More than 90 percent of faculty reported they would recommend it to their colleagues. Read More >

SESSION TO LOOK AT SUMMER CAMPS FOR CHILDREN

Jilaine Anderson, director of Recreational Sports’ Age Group and Camps program will discuss summer camp options for your child from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday (3/13) in 400 Stillman Hall. The forum is presented by Human Resources and The Women’s Place. Parents can choose from a variety of camps from science to soccer and more. Topics will include selecting a camp most appropriate for your child’s age and interests, the questions every parent should ask about a summer camp, and tips to prepare parents and children in order to have the best camp experience possible. PUBLIC LECTURE, STUDENT POSTER SESSION APRIL 3

This year’s Multiple Perspectives Conference will present “Disclosure and Identity” from 4-5:30 p.m. Tuesday (4/3) at the Blackwell Hotel and Conference Center. The free public lecture by Stephen Kuusisto, OSU associate professor of English, and Robert McRuer, assistant professor of English, George Washington University will focus on the central role of what has come to be called “the coming out narrative” as it applies to the experiences of self-disclosure described in disabled, gay and lesbian narratives. Student Perspectives, A Poster Reception will follow the lecture from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Register online.

RESEARCH GRANTS PROGRAM SEEKS FACULTY/STUDENT TEAM PROPOSALS

TELR’s Research on Research (r2) Grants program is underway for the fourth consecutive year, and proposals are being sought from faculty who will team with undergraduate students over summer quarter to develop a multimedia research portfolio. Interdisciplinary teams are welcomed and encouraged. The Digital Union provides technology support and features the teams in an end-of-quarter showcase open to the public. Students receive a stipend and develop a research resource. Proposals are due by Friday (4/13). Read More >
