Headline news$2.9 MILLION NSF GRANT TO BOOST K-12 SCIENCE EDUCATIONOhio State’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center has received a $2.9 million grant from the National Science Foundation to help boost science education in Ohio schools and prepare the future generation of U.S. scientists. Part of NSF’s Graduate Teaching Fellows in K-12 Education Program, the grant will team up OARDC researchers, OSU Extension specialists and graduate students in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences with elementary and secondary school teachers and students in northeast Ohio. DRAFT SSN PRIVACY AND SAFEGUARDING POLICY COMMENTS SOUGHTThe SSN Privacy and Safeguarding project has developed a draft policy regarding the collection, retention and protection of Social Security numbers at the university. The draft SSN Privacy and Safeguarding policy is published on the BuckeyeSecure Web site and available for comment through Friday (3/30). Drafts of the policy’s supporting materials, such as transition checklists, have also been published on the Web site. NEW, MORE GENEROUS FACULTY POLICIES APPROVEDWith recent approval by the Board of Trustees, starting in autumn 2007 Ohio State will provide 100 percent compensation for up to two quarters of Faculty Professional Leave. To encourage faculty to take advantage of leave opportunities, Academic Affairs has eliminated the prohibition on contiguous FPLs and Special Research Assignments. Trustees also approved two Faculty Rules changes that (1) provide for the automatic extension of the tenure clock following the birth of a child or the adoption of a child under six years of age, and (2) expand the two-year cap on the probationary period to three years. The presentation is hosted by the OSU Clinical Research Professionals group as part of efforts to improve the conduct of clinical research through promotion of professional interaction, communication and continuing education. Contact: jennifer.lanter@osumc.edu or 293-2115 MORITZ COLLEGE SEEKS FACULTY/STAFF MOCK JURORSThe Clinical Programs at the Moritz College of Law is seeking faculty and staff who would like to serve as jurors at mock trials to be held in the college’s Moot Court Room in April. The judges in the cases will be sitting judges from around the state. Jurors will have an opportunity to hear an entire case and then talk with the law students and judges about their verdict and impressions of the trial. Mock trials are scheduled for Thursday (4/5), Monday (4/9), Thursday (4/12), and Monday (4/16). They will last two-three hours and will begin at 4 p.m. in the Moot Court Room, 249 Drinko Hall.
