SOFTWARE PINPOINTS TRAFFIC ACCIDENT HOTSPOTS

Ohio State scientists have created software that can identify traffic accident hotspots on state roadways. The software is publicly available and can be adapted for use by any state, said Christopher Holloman, associate director of the Statistical Consulting Service in the Department of Statistics. Currently, the Ohio State Highway Patrol is using it to help position its cruisers during major holidays. The software relies on reports of injuries and fatalities from the highway patrol, and incorporates statistics about what makes accidents happen. Read More >

TRESSEL TO ADDRESS BELL ETHICS IN SPORTS LUNCHEON

OSU Football Coach Jim Tressel is the keynote speaker for the second annual Todd A. Bell “Ethics in American Sports” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Monday (3/26) at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 350 N. High St. Archie Griffin, president and CEO of the Ohio State Alumni Association, Gene Smith, director of Athletics and Vanessa Bell Armstrong, national gospel recording artist, will participate in the program. DAVIES TO ADDRESS ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL LABOR ORGANIZATION

Anne Davies, a fellow and tutor in law at Oxford University, will deliver “The Role of the International Labor Organization in a Globalizing World” at noon Wednesday (3/28) at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies. STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT TO IMPACT PARKING

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Boys' State Basketball Tournament will take place from 10:45 a.m.-11 p.m. today (3/22)-Saturday (3/24) at the Jerome Schottenstein Center. WELLNESS CENTER OFFERS SELF DEFENSE FOR WOMEN

The Student Wellness Center is offering a five-week self-defense course for women beginning Thursday (4/19) in the Pomerene Hall gym (third floor). The free sessions will take place Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. and are open to all women, including non-student community members. Instructors will teach mental, verbal and physical self-defense skills. VETERINARY COLLEGE HOSTS PUPPY CLASSES

The OSU College of Veterinary Medicine is offering puppy socialization classes for puppies age eight-16 weeks and their owners. Puppy Kindergarten serves to socialize new puppies so that they may learn to handle stress and new situations well as an adult and provides owner education in all aspects of canine development and behavior problem prevention and resolution. Weekly classes begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday (4/5). OSU employees and students receive a $10 discount on the six-week course (regularly $95). WEIGHT WATCHERS SESSION SET FOR MARCH 29

A free Weight Watchers informational meeting will take place from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday (3/29) in 460 Kottman Hall. The regular 10-week session will begin the following Thursday (4/5). The cost is $110 for a 10-week period for new members, $100 for returning members and Lifetime members over goal. Participants enrolled in a university-sponsored medical plan can receive a 50-percent reimbursement through Your Plan for Health.
