Headline newsCANCER PIONEER, RESEARCHER TO SPEAK AT OSU MEDICAL CENTERJudah Folkman, a widely acclaimed pioneer of research, will deliver
the keynote address at the OSU Medical Center’s sixth annual
graduate and postgraduate Research Day at noon Thursday (3/29) in the
Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute auditorium. Folkman, known
around the world for advancing the concept of anti-angiogenic therapies
for cancer and other diseases, is a 1953 graduate of Ohio State. Research
Day features the innovative work of medical and biomedical research
trainees at the Medical Center. Presented in poster format, the more
than 280 abstracts on display span the range of scientific investigation

OUBRERIE TO DISCUSS CHURCH OF SAINT PIERRE AT FIRMINYJose Oubrerie, professor at the Knowlton School of Architecture, will lecture on the recently completed Church of Saint Pierre at Firminy at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (3/28) in 250 Knowlton Hall. In the early 1960s Oubrerie collaborated with Le Corbusier on the design of the Church of Saint Pierre at Firminy. Forty years later, the project, which opened in 2006, is complete. The building is also featured in the exhibition “Architecture Interrupts” at the Wexner Center for the Arts through Sunday (4/15). p.m. Wednesday (3/28) at Bill Davis Stadium - will go to two funds
established for the Bluffton University baseball team. The proceeds
will go to the two funds established for the Bluffton baseball team’s
student-athletes involved in a fatal charter bus accident Friday (3/2)
in Atlanta. One fund has been established at Citizens National Bank
for the Bluffton University baseball team student-athletes; the other
has been established to create a lasting campus memorial. Contact:

Invited artists, theorists and scientists will participate in the free public symposium and exhibition of art and ideas. Two related exhibitions are planned. Read More > MANGAN TO DELIVER SUSTAINABILITY LECTUREAndrew Mangan, executive director of the U.S. Business Council for Sustainable Development, will present “The Synergies of Sustainability” from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday (3/30) in 250 Knowlton Hall. The USBCSD is part of a global network of 180 companies from 30 countries that has shown that business success is linked to economic, social and environmental sustainability. One key approach is By-Product Synergy, in which manufacturing facilities reduce pollution, save energy and increase profits by converting one facility’s wastes into another’s raw materials. OSC HOSTS PARALLEL PROGRAMMING WORKSHOPThe Ohio Supercomputer Center is hosting a workshop, “Parallel Programming with OpenMP” from 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Thursday (4/12) and 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Friday (4/13) at OSC. The workshop is an overview of OpenMP parallel programming which is a de-facto standard for multi-threaded parallel programming on shared-memory multiprocessor systems, based upon the use of special comments called compiler directives in the program’s source code. Subsequent weekly meetings will take place from 11 a.m.-noon on Friday
in Ross Heart Hospital’s Auditorium (room 1213). The cost is
$110 for a 10-week period for new members and $100 for returning members.
