But researchers have found a better method for collecting and analyzing these germs that could give a more accurate assessment of their actual threat. STATEWIDE TORNADO DRILL THIS MORNINGWith tornado and thunderstorm season upon us, Ohio is recognizing Sunday (3/25)-Saturday (3/31) as Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week. As part of this statewide initiative, Franklin County will conduct a tornado safety drill at 9:50 a.m. today (3/28). The test takes the place of the regularly scheduled Wednesday testing at noon, and both the tone and voice capability will be activated. Basements and interior rooms are the safest places to be during a tornado. The unsafe place to be during a tornado is in a car. ANNUAL PATTERSON LECTURE TO ADDRESS LAND-GRANT MISSIONThe fourth Annual James F. Patterson Land-Grant University Lecture will be presented by Martin C. Jischke, president of Purdue University, from 3-5 p.m. Monday (5/7) at the Huntington Club in Ohio Stadium. Register online by Tuesday (5/1). After the lecture, recipients of the 2007 outreach and engagement grants will be announced. OSU HOSTS WOMEN IN SCIENCE DAY MARCH 29The Association for Women in Science of Central Ohio will present the annual Women in Science Day program at OSU on Thursday (3/29). Gifted and talented girls from across the state in grades six-nine selected by their teachers will participate in workshops in math and science led by OSU women faculty. The program is made possible by the efforts of faculty, staff and students and others under the leadership of Raquel Diaz-Sprague, adjunct instructor at OSU and director of the Women in Science Day program. Iyer, Distinguished Engineer and director of the Semiconductor Research and Development Center at IBM, will present “Beyond Scaling - Teaching the Old Dog Some New Tricks” at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (3/29) in 260 Dreese Laboratory. Iyer will address memory technology, the use of electromigration and the importance of decoupling and the use of deep trench capacitors.
