Headline newsOSU'S NUCLEAR REACTOR A BOON FOR WIDE SPECTRUM OF RESEARCHThe nondescript building on West Campus tucked several hundred feet back from Kinnear Road looks more like a storage facility than the home to a nuclear reactor that opened in 1961. It’s the only reactor in Ohio and one of 23 maintained at universities around the country, down from about 60. Used primarily for research and testing, the reactor also is a teaching tool, not only for Ohio State students but hundreds of high school students who tour the facility every year. Read More >
LOTZ NAMED 2007 TRUMAN SCHOLARJoshua Lotz, a junior in the Honors Collegium, has been named a 2007 Harry S. Truman Scholar. The Truman Scholarship is awarded to approximately 70 students each year, investing in undergraduates committed to careers in public service. The award provides $30,000 towards graduate school. He is pursuing both a B.S. in Biochemistry and an M.A. in Chinese. Lotz conducts research on alternative plant medicine and will spend next year in China studying the chemical makeup of two Tibetan poppy species through the Chinese Academy of Science. Read More > FACULTY CLUB HOSTS CHARITY ART AUCTIONSome 100 artworks and intriguing university collectibles will be offered for sale during the Faculty Club’s third annual art auction on Friday (3/30). The auction will benefit the Faculty Club building endowment. A silent auction and preview will take place at 6 p.m., with the live auction set for 8 p.m. Both auctions are free. Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. A list of the artists, artworks and collectibles is available online. 9 p.m. Contact: sharon.feinblatt@wosu.org VISITING SCHOLAR TO SPEAK ON SOUTH KOREAN ATTITUDESTaehyun Kim, a visiting scholar at the Mershon Center for International Security Studies, will deliver “National Identity and Foreign Policy Attitudes of the South Korean Public” at noon on Wednesday (4/4) at the Mershon Center. Kim received his Ph.D. in political science from Ohio State in 1991 and teaches at the Graduate School of International Studies at Chung-Ang University in South Korea. Contact: luther.3@osu.edu MORITZ COLLEGE SEEKS FACULTY/STAFF MOCK JURORSThe Clinical Programs at the Moritz College of Law is seeking faculty and staff who would like to serve as jurors at mock trials to be held in the college’s Moot Court Room in April. Sign up by Tuesday (4/3). Jurors will have an opportunity to hear an entire case and talk with the law students and judges about their verdict and impressions of the trial. Mock trials are scheduled for Thursday (4/5), Monday (4/9), Thursday (4/12), and Monday (4/16). They will last two-three hours and will begin at 4 p.m. in 249 Drinko Hall.
