Headline newsGOVERNOR, CHANCELLOR VISIT OSU CAMPUSGov. Ted Strickland and Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut visited campus Thursday (3/29) to tour the Center for the Accelerated Maturation of Materials. The tour was led by Hamish Fraser, Ohio Eminent Scholar and CAMM director. Fraser and his colleagues have worked on the development and utilization of the world’s highest resolution, commercially available scanning transmission electron microscope. The group observed a number of electron microscopes and learned how they are used by faculty, students and other external organizations to better understand the characterization of materials.
TODAY IS GOBUCKEYE! DAY FOR POTENTIAL STUDENTSAs you go about your business on campus today, you may notice an inordinately large number of high school students and their parents consulting campus maps. Today is goBuckeye!, and more than 700 high school seniors accompanied by their parents will spend the day checking out academic programs and the campus as they try to make their final college choice. The campus community is encouraged to greet the guests warmly and to feel free to help direct them should you see folks poring over that campus map. ICELAND PRESIDENT TO DISCUSS CLIMATE CHANGE MONDAYIceland President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson will discuss the issues that have caused the environmental erosion of 40 percent of his country and a partnership with Ohio State to help resolve the severity at 2 p.m. Monday (4/2) at the Wexner Center. The lecture is free and open to the public. Grímsson will deliver “The Challenges of Climate Change: Iceland, a Laboratory for Global Solutions.” The research collaborations with Iceland are part of Ohio State’s Climate, Water and Carbon Program - one of 10 high-impact programs chosen by the university for its Targeted Investment in Excellence initiative, a $100 million commitment over five years to address some of society’s most pressing challenges. Plant Density and Pollen-load on Seed Production of Cucurbit Crops,” from
11 a.m.-noon today (3/30), in Columbus and by video simulcast in Wooster.
A visiting scientist with OSU’s Ornamental Plant Germplasm Center,
Nerson specializes in seed physiology and germination, whole plant
physiology, and crop physiology. Attend in 244 Kottman Hall on the

FIRST CAMPUS MUSIC HOP SET FOR APRIL 12-15The first Campus Music Hop scheduled for Thursday (4/12)-Sunday (4/15) will feature a variety of live musical performances in more than a dozen locations along or near High Street in the University District. At the heart of the music hop will be Ohio State’s 30th Annual Jazz Festival. The music will include jazz in Weigel Auditorium; the blues, hip hop and rock’n’roll at restaurants and nightspots along High Street; opera and dance at South Campus Gateway; and performances at Summit United Methodist Church. Many of the performances will be free. A listing of events is available online. COLLEGE TEACHING SERIES SESSIONS SCHEDULEDFaculty & TA Development continues the College Teaching Series with three sessions on teaching issues to be held in 300 Younkin Success Center. The U.S. System of Higher Education, set for 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday (4/3), is designed for TAs unfamiliar with U.S. higher education. Collaborative Learning I and Collaborative Learning II will take place from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday (4/10) and Tuesday (4/17). Each session in the series has been designed primarily for novice TAs and faculty, however all instructors are invited to attend and will find useful information about improving teaching.
