Headline newsDISTINGUISHED LECTURE LOOKS TO PAST TO FIND CLUES TO TERRORISM’S ROOTSIn his University Distinguished Lecture on Wednesday (3/5), Professor of History Kevin Boyle took a look at the past to help us understand the complexity of terrorism today. “Our simple vision of where terrorism comes from - that it comes from the rejection of modernity, that it comes from an innate evil - reduces a complex phenomenon to its most simple formulation. I think that is a mistake,” Boyle told the audience. His lecture focused on a famous early 20th century case in Massachusetts in which two Italian-born, avowed anarchists were put to death for a crime that one or both of them probably didn’t commit.
