Headline newsDISABILITY AWARENESS MONTHApril is Disability Awareness Month at OSU and the Office for Disability Services has planned two kick-off events to celebrate. Dancing Wheels, a dance troupe comprised of dancers in wheelchairs, will perform on Wednesday (4/2) at 7 p.m. in 200 Campbell Hall. A reception with the opening of an art exhibit by artists who have disabilities will be held on Thursday (4/3) 4:30-6 p.m. on the second floor of Bricker Hall. The exhibit will be open through Wednesday (4/30). The reception is co-sponsored by the Office of Minority Affairs Frank W. Hale, Jr. Black Cultural Center. Other events and activities are collaborations with the student groups UNITY, Sports Fusion, NAMI and the Youth Adult Transition Corp (YATC). Read more > MORITZ COLLEGE SEEKING JURORS FOR MOCK TRIALSThe Clinical Programs at the Moritz College of Law is seeking faculty/staff to serve as jurors at mock trials to be held at 4:15 p.m. Thursday (4/3), Monday (4/7), Thursday (4/10) and Monday (4/14) in the Moot Court Room (room 249) at the College of Law. The judges in the cases will be sitting judges from around the state of Ohio. Jurors will hear an entire case and then discuss their verdict and impressions of the trial with the law students and judges after the case. Contact Lynda Seelie at seelie.2@osu.edu HOW THE DETECTIVE NOVEL MADE IT TO JAPANThe history of how Japan imported and translated the detective story in the late 19th century will be shared by Mark Silver, assistant professor of Japanese at Connecticut College. "Purloined Letters: Cultural Borrowing and The Translated Detective Novel in Meiji Japan" will be presented on Friday (3/28) from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in 115 Mendenhall Lab. The lecture is part of the East Asian Studies Lecture Series, co sponsored by the Institute for Japanese Studies and the East Asian Studies Center. Read more > ASFW LUNCHEON - COOKING AND EATING TO RELIEVE STRESSThe Association of Staff and Faculty Women hosts Columbus Dispatch food editor Robin Davis on Thursday (4/10) for a demonstration on how to make cooking fun and relaxing, and turn out great, healthy meals in 30 minutes or less. Read more > OFFICE HOURS FOR HELP WITH IRB SUBMISSIONSThe Office of Responsible Research Practices (ORRP) holds office hours to help researchers prepare IRB submissions and exemption requests. These sessions are intended to help student and faculty researchers navigate IRB forms, policies, and review procedures. The next session for biomedical/cancer researchers is held in 652 Fry Hall on Wednesday (4/2) from 2-4 p.m. Subsequent office hours are posted as Assistance for Students/Researchers online. CARMEN WORKSHOPS REMINDERSeats are still available for next week's Carmen workshops. Topics include QuickStart, Gradebook, Quizzes, Communication tools, Media Manager, and an Open Q&A. Read more > FREE RELAXATION CLASSES OFFERED AT YOUNKINLearn the art of relaxation through Qigong (chee-gong), which can be a pathway to relaxation and stress management through gentle movement. Counseling and Consultation Service offers sessions every Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. in the Library/Media Resource Suite on the second floor of the Younkin Success Center. Conversation partners offer students studying English the chance to converse in a relaxed and non-academic atmosphere with a native English speaker. Each conversation partner commits to spending at least one hour per week (for one quarter only) with his/her international partner.
