Headline newsOHIO STATE STUDY EVALUATES TREATMENT FOR MIGRAINESIn an effort to assist the approximate 28 million Americans who suffer from chronic migraines, neurologists at the Medical Center are participating in a multi-center clinical trial, evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an experimental drug used for the treatment of recurrent migraine headaches in adults. The investigational drug is a combination therapy that combines sumatriptan and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug pain reliever for the treatment of migraine symptoms. Read more >
UPCOMING FACULTY SURVEYFaculty will receive an email on Wednesday (4/2) requesting their participation in a survey about their experiences at Ohio State. The survey will allow the university to take part in a larger collection of data on faculty satisfaction, workload, and climate that is being conducted by the American Association of Universities. It was developed by the Office of Institutional Research and Planning at the president’s and provost’s request. The results of previous surveys may be found online. The 2008 survey results will be tallied and posted to that address early this summer. The Future of Energy University Listening Tour – led locally by American Electric Power CEO Michael G. Morris – is coming to Ohio State Wednesday (4/2). The 90-minute presentation and discussion will occur at the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. Doors will open at 12:45. The event is geared toward young student voters, but open to the entire Ohio State community. Go online to make seat reservations. TELR ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR INNOVATIONS IN eLEARNINGTELR is now accepting applications for a new initiative to promote eLearning experimentation at Ohio State. The Expertise Grant program enables faculty to collaborate with TELR eLearning consultants to develop and test their ideas for teaching and learning with technology. Faculty can request from 20 to 100 hours of TELR staff support, as well as up to $10,000 in funding, to support instructional innovation. Up to two projects, twice per year, can be supported. The application deadline for spring projects is Thursday (5/1). 2008 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AWARDSApplications are being accepted for the Kathryn T. Schoen Awards and the Critical Difference for Women Awards. These awards provide opportunities for professional growth and leadership for women faculty and staff. Up to two Schoen Awards of $2,500 will be presented to Ohio State faculty women, and up to two Critical Difference Awards of $2,500 will be presented to Ohio State staff women. Recipients may use their awards for internships, educational programs, travel, or other experiences that promote professional or leadership development. Women faculty and staff members, with five years of continuous service at Ohio State and who have demonstrated potential for a career in higher education administration, may apply. The deadline is Monday (5/5). Read more > OSU URBAN ARTS SPACE TO HOST SPECIAL EVENTSThe historic Lazarus building at 50 W. Town St. is the site of three special events. On Tuesday (4/1) from noon – 1p.m., Brian Ezzell of Georgetown Midwest will give a talk about the history of the building. On Thursday (4/3) there will be a Carnival Closing event from 5:30 - 8 p.m. A parade featuring curator Lesley Ferris, Columbus Africentric Nubian Dance and Drum Company, and students from 4th and 5th grade art classes will begin at 5:45 p.m.. On Friday (4/4) from noon - 1 p.m., Robin Van Lear, artistic director of Cleveland Museum of Art's Parade the Circle, will give a talk about Carnival costumes.
