Marras elected to National Academy of Engineering

 A career devoted to preventing workplace injuries has earned William Marras the highest professional distinction accorded to an engineer. Marras, professor and Honda Endowed Chair in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for developing methods and models used to control costs and injuries associated with manual work in industry. Ohio Supercomputer Center announces $4 million addition to flagship system

The Ohio Supercomputer Center is expanding its flagship supercomputing system with a $4 million addition, which will more than double the Center’s current computing power and memory, significantly increase computational capacity dedicated to Ohio’s bioscience and research efforts, and further increase the state’s competitive advantage. Located on west campus, OSC provides Ohio industries and universities, including Ohio State, with a reliable high performance computing and networking infrastructure. Read more >

Chancellor Fingerhut to deliver Inaugural Goldberg Lecture on Teaching March 20

Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut will deliver the Inaugural Goldberg Lecture on Teaching from 3:30-5 p.m. Friday (3/20) in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge. The Goldberg Lecture Series, sponsored by the Department of History's Harvey Goldberg Center for Excellence in Teaching, provides a forum to advance discussion of the importance of effective teaching to the health and vigor of higher education in Ohio. OSU Leadership Center to host technology and leadership training

Facebook, Twitter, wikis, blogs! What are these terms and how do they affect management and leadership? The OSU Leadership Center is hosting a workshop about Technology Tools for Management and Leadership from 9:15-11:45 a.m. Wednesday (3/4) in 105 Agriculture Administration Building. Understanding and Preventing Urban Youth Violence March 4

The Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center will present "Understanding and Preventing Urban Youth Violence: How Every Voice Matters," by Deanna Wilkinson, OSU professor of Human Development and Family Science, at 6 p.m. Wednesday (3/4) at the Community Extension Center, 905 Mt. Legal experts to discuss credit crisis

Legal and business experts will visit the Moritz College of Law for “The Credit Crash of 2008: Regulation within Economic Crisis” from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday (3/6) at the Barrister Club. The symposium is sponsored by Moritz’s Entrepreneurial Business Law Journal. Panelists from the legal practice, business sector, and academia will present their insights on the recent credit crisis. The OSU community may attend the symposium free of charge. Lunch costs $15. Register online.

March 10 open forum: The Cultural Stimulus?

The $787 billion stimulus package has started to work its way through the economy. To take effect, a stimulus must produce an appropriate response. How could the OSU community act to contribute to the success of the stimulus package? Register for academic processional by March 13

Faculty planning to march in the academic processional at Winter Commencement, on Sunday (3/22) in St. John Arena, should notify their college or regional campus dean's office by Friday (3/13). On commencement day, faculty registered to participate in the processional should assemble by 12:30 p.m. in cap and gown in the northeast corner of French Field House. Paper and Bytes: Policies, Best Practices, and Resources for Managing OSU Records

Participants in this workshop will become more knowledgeable about university policies, legal requirements, and best practices concerning the retention, management and disposition of records in their care. Sufi Poetry Night March 4

Join the Middle East Studies Center for an evening of Sufi poetry recitation at 7 p.m. Wednesday (3/4) in 10 Page Hall. What Sufism means and how it is practiced will be discussed.
