Ohio State honored as International Organization of the Year
Ohio State has been recognized as the 2009 International Organization of the Year by the Columbus Council on World Affairs. The award, presented Tuesday (3/3) to President E. Gordon Gee, recognizes the university for its outstanding contributions in international education and its commitment to global outreach. The council recognized OSU as a national education leader and credited the "talents of its globally literate college graduates that can play a leading role in fueling economic recovery worldwide." OSU faculty, students and staff unite for the good of the community
Fisher College of Business students, in collaboration with OSU Extension/University District and the African American and African Studies Extension Center are helping low-moderate income, working families, who may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. Students have been certified by the IRS to prepare basic income tax returns, and taxes are prepared for free at local Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites, including OSU Extension’s Learning Center at Godman Guild, 303 E. Sixth St., and the AAAS Extension Center, 940 Mt. Vernon Ave. VITA’s free income tax preparation services are available to any resident in Franklin County earning less than $40,000. Denman Undergraduate Research Forum applications currently being accepted
Faculty are asked to encourage students to present completed research or research in progress at the 2009 Denman Undergraduate Research Forum, to be held Wednesday (5/13) in the RPAC. Applications for the forum are currently available online at http://denman.osu.edu. The deadline for submission is Wednesday (4/1).
Today: Lecture on Christians, Sex and Politics
The Department of Comparative Studies will sponsor the 2009 Davis Lecture in Christianity Studies at 4:30 p.m. today (3/4) in 0010 Page Hall. Marie Griffith, professor of Religion at Princeton University will discuss “Christians, Sex and Politics from Alfred Kinsey to Beverly LaHaye.” Her latest book, Christians, Sex, and Politics: An American History is under contract with Norton. Kentner to present KSA Confluence Lecture today
Jason Kentner, assistant professor of Landscape Architecture, will be speaking at 5:30 p.m. today (3/4) in the Knowlton Hall auditorium as part of the Confluence Lecture Series. Kentner’s past research has focused on the changing ambition of landscape, considering the scarcity of resources and economically driven development patterns. From conflict to collaboration: March 5 talk looks at eco decisions
Utah State University’s Steven Daniels will deliver “From Conflict to Collaboration: A Discourse-based Approach to Environmental Decisions” at 3:30 p.m. Thursday (3/5), as part of the School of Environment and Natural Resources' winter seminar series. ecoMOD is a research and design/build/evaluate project at the University of Virginia School of Architecture that aims to create a series of ecological, modular and affordable house prototypes, and to challenge the modular and manufactured housing industry in the U.S. to explore this potential. Kaiser to present Excavations at Olynthus, 1931: One Woman's Story
Alan Kaiser of the University of Evansville will present “Excavations at Olynthus, 1931: One Woman's Story,” at 8 p.m. Thursday (3/5) in 014 University Hall. Kaiser will examine the diaries, letters and scrapbooks of Mary Ross Ellingson, which hint at a darker side of her story, and may help rewrite the history of women in American classical archaeology. March 5 ReadAloud features Research Communications writers
The final ReadAloud program of the quarter will take place from 3-4 p.m. Thursday (3/5) at the Wexner Center Cafe. HR hosts Sexual Harassment 101 March 12
Sexual Harassment 101 will be held from 9-11 a.m. Thursday (3/12) at South Campus Gateway, 1590 N. High St., Suite 430. Workshop participants will review definitions and problem behaviors, how to determine what behaviors may be harassment, what to do when harassment occurs, and responsibilities of instructors, supervisors, and leaders. Sports tournaments, events to impact parking
In the northwest campus area, the Ohio High School Athletic Association tournaments will occur throughout the month of March, impacting parking and traffic on campus. These events and others in the vicinity will make parking difficult and may impact your commute to and from campus. Reminder: Storyteller Dovie Thomason community performance today
The Multicultural Center invites you to share your story as a part of the OSU StoryBox project with Dovie Thomason, a Kiowa Apache and Lakota storyteller whose tales gently dispel false images of the First Nations People of North America and replace them with traditional stories to which all cultures can relate.
