Susan Williams appointed to vice provost position
Provost Joe Alutto has recommended the appointment of Susan Williams, OSU professor of English, as the Vice Provost for Academic Policy and Faculty Resources. Subject to board of trustees approval, the appointment is effective Wednesday (4/1). A member of Ohio State's faculty since 1991, Williams has received the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Faculty Award for Distinguished University Service. Among her many roles, she has served as the Department of English’s interim vice chair, director of Graduate Studies, and faculty development officer, and on numerous committees. Read more >
Traffic alert: Westbound Woodruff Avenue, near Fisher College of Business
Beginning Monday (3/9), construction will close the westbound lanes of Woodruff Avenue near the Fisher College of Business. The westbound lanes of Woodruff will be closed from Mason Hall to Tuttle Park Place. Two-way traffic will be maintained by shifting to the eastbound lanes of Woodruff. This work is part of a utilities expansion project to support development in the north campus region. For more information, visit the Facilities Operations and Development web site.

Cost Sharing: Why No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
The Office of Research is offering “NCURA TV - Cost Sharing: Why No Good Deed Goes Unpunished” at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (3/10) at the Research Foundation. The program will include a review of the types of costs that qualify for cost sharing, the accepted categories, and the requirements for documenting and reporting it. The panel will discuss the various pressure points with cost sharing, the relationships among cost sharing, effort reporting, and indirect cost rates, and other issues. Register online
Workshop: A Practical Guide to Methods and Techniques in Biomedical Research
Ten core OSU research facilities will hold a workshop to highlight methods and technologies in biomedical research. From proteomics to animal imaging and from nucleic acid sequencing to confocal microscopy the talks will focus on planning experiments, preparing samples, collecting data, and analyzing data. The workshop will run from Thursday (4/16)-Sunday (4/19) in 115 Biomedical Research Tower. Registration required. Register online

Inherit the Wind performances March 6-8
Three weekend performances of Inherit the Wind will be performed Friday (3/6)-Sunday (3/8) at the Columbus Performing Arts Space, 549 Franklin Ave., by the OSU Mansfield Theatre Department. The classic play about evolution, creationism, and an American society struggling to balance faith and freedom will be performed at 7:30 p.m. March 6-7 and 2:30 p.m. March 8. Tickets are free to OSU students and $10 for general admission. Call 292-2295 or obtain tickets on site one hour before each show. Inherit the Wind was written by OSU Alumnus Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee.
March 6 talk: Berries' health benefits, plant scientists' role
The winter seminar series of the Department of Horticulture and Crop Science continues at 11 a.m. Friday (3/6) with “The Health-promoting Properties of Rubus Phytonutrients: A Role for Plant Scientists in the Crop-to-table-to-clinic Research Continuum,” by Joe Scheerens, associate professor, Horticulture and Crop Science. Attend by live video link on the Columbus campus in 244 Kottman Hall and at the OARDC in Wooster, 121 Fisher Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public. Read more >
Autism speaks student chapter to discuss legislation March 6
The Autism Speaks Student Chapter at Ohio State will host Ohio Rep. Ted Celeste (D) and advocate Doug Krinksy for a discussion of a bill to ensure parity in insurance for autism (House Bill 8) and a review of autism advocacy in Columbus. The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Friday (3/6) in 167 Campbell Hall. The bill would require private health insurance companies to cover the screening, diagnosis, testing, and treatment of autism. Optometry to host Children’s Learning Forum April 24
Registration is currently open for the annual Children’s Learning Forum, to be presented by the OSU College of Optometry Friday (4/24) at the Holiday Inn in Worthington. The conference is designed to provide continuing education opportunities for audiologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, teachers, nurses, optometrists, school psychologists and other professionals who work with children who have learning difficulties. Tickets go on sale Friday (3/6) for the Music as a Weapon Tour, featuring Disturbed, Killswitch Engage, Lacuna Coil and Chimaira, scheduled for Tuesday (5/5) in Value City Arena. Grammy-nominated hard-rock band Disturbed will launch the music, tattoo and lifestyle festival.
