Hospital unit cuts costs, improves efficiency
The OSU Medical Center’s Emergency Department is leading an effort designed to minimize unnecessary hospital admissions, and reduce costs for patients and the hospital. A newly expanded clinical decision unit utilizes a structured evaluation process of more than 30 protocols for conditions such as congestive heart failure, stroke, kidney infections, chest pain and asthma. The goal is to decompress emergency department volumes and avoid unnecessary hospital stays and related costs. Read more >
USAC calls for greater educational benefits, career pathing
This year’s Staff Compensation and Benefits Subcommittee did an about-face last week in its presentation to President Gordon Gee and Vice President for Human Resources Larry Lewellen, narrowing its focus to just two areas where the committee believed staff could benefit the most: Creating defined career paths and expanding OSU’s education benefits to other area colleges and universities. Symposium to focus on Remix/Mashup March 12-13
I/S: A Journal of Law and Policy for the Information Society at the Moritz College of Law and the Wexner Center for the Arts will host a discussion on the implications of mashup and remix in the world of Web 2.0, on Thursday (3/12) and Friday (3/13) at various College of Law venues. New media artists, prominent academics and influential members of the media will discuss ways in which the digitization of music, film and visual art over the Internet is influencing the future of these industries and the future of copyright law. The event is free to OSU faculty, staff and students. Register online.
Today: Knechtges to deliver ICS Future of the Past lecture
The Institute for Chinese Studies “Future of the Past” Lecture Series continues at 2:30 p.m. today (3/6) in 164 Jennings Hall. David Knechtges, professor of Chinese literature at University of Washington (Seattle), will deliver "The Problems with Analogies: The Case of the Poems of Ying Qu (190-252)." Graduate School to host graduation policies information sessions
The Graduate School is offering information sessions for graduate students to explain document guidelines and procedures necessary to graduate. Doctoral students are invited to attend the session from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday (4/15) in 155 Jennings Hall. This session will focus on dissertation submission guidelines and procedures to schedule exams and graduate. A similar program for both thesis and non-thesis master’s degree students will be held from 3-4 p.m. Wednesday (4/29) in 155 Jennings Hall. Register online. Contact: Beth Bucher
Spice up your health with the Diabetic Chef March 30
Chris Smith, author of Cooking with the Diabetic Chef and The Diabetic Chef's Year-Round Cookbook, will conduct a live cooking demonstration, "Cooking for a Healthy Lifestyle with the Diabetic Chef," at 6:30 p.m. Monday (3/30). Undergraduate summer research funding deadline extended to March 20
The deadline for applications for URO Summer Research Fellowships, the Summer Honors Research Scholarships, and the College of Biological Sciences Mayers Summer Research Scholarships has been extended. HR hosts Intro to Sexual Harassment 101 March 12
Participants in this workshop will review definitions and problem behaviors, how to determine what behaviors may be harassment, what to do when harassment occurs, and responsibilities of instructors, supervisors, and leaders.
